AWESOME SHAVE!!! :bow :bow
Another DE shave but it's the last one for a while, I promise. I'm getting used to this puppy and it looks like it will make a nice little traveller. Tomorrow I'm going back to my straights.. IIRC it's the Filly's turn :y
6/8 quarter hollow Wacker
Edwin Jagger Best
Mama Bear Spellbound Woods :tu
Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Mama Bear After Shave Milk
New soaps and aftershaves for Christmas :tu
C&E Sienna soap
11/16 Torrey 1/2 hollow
Alum block
Pinaud Special Reserve A/S
The Filly needs to go back to the hones. I don't know what I did to the bevel or even how I did it, but this is beyond CrO2. Had a bit of a pull and the shave wasn't nearly as comfortable as it was supposed to be.
New stuff from Christmas used.
New Bass pure bristle brush
C.O. Bigalow creme (Its re-labled Proraso, much cooler looking tube)
my usual 4/8 Bengal spike
C.O. Bigalow Bay Rum after shave balm.
Great shave and great stuff my wife picked out without any "help" from me!!!
Proraso is my favorite right now and the bay rum balm moisturizes well for winter and smells great.
P.S. C.O. Bigalow is a Bath and Body Works brand, I understand you have to look hard to find the mens stuff in there as there was only one little 3' by 8" shelf in the whole place for mens products.
Monday:
TIMOR Hamburg Ring 5/8" straight
OMEGA badger brush
Charles Tyrwhitt Lemon&Cedar sc
Lotion Opaline A/S
Charles Tyrwhitt Lemon&Cedar A/S balm
Merry Christmas also from here!!
Shower
Kent 50/50 boar/badger brush
TAGMSC shaving soap
6/8 Worldmaster with cocobolo scales
Sanex aftershave balm (Nivea basically)
Very very nice. The TAGMSC stuff brings out the best in any of my razors.
Happy Boxing day!
Hot bath, long soak
St Ives apricot scrub (great stuff, used it for a few years now)
Hot rinse
Proraso pre-shave
Edwin Jagger BB brush
Trumpers sandalwood cream
6/8 Walter Eigenbrod
Three passes, no irritation and no nicks :D
Alum block
Trumpers coral skin food
Tabac a/s
This is a larger blade and it's double-tempered so I probably messed up somewhere along the line.
Today I shaved with the Bismarck. Got a nice clean shave but I probably should have waited to take a shower first, since I took one anyways. I guess I love shaving way too much lol.
Tuesday:
PRIMA Solingen 5/8" straight
SMF II brush
Crema da Barba Figaro shaving soap
Pinaud Clubman A/S
OLIVIA's A/S balm
7/8 Fridour roundpoint
Vulfix 2197 pure badger
JM Fraser shaving cream
Alum block
Pitralon Classic
Neutrogena moisturizer
A great shave today - the Fridour is simply amazing - my first pass on two days of growth barely required a second pass for a very close shave.
I'm also finding that the 7/8 is not nearly as cumbersome as I thought it would be - however, I still find that 6/8 is the best size for me and I can't wait to get the 6/8 Dovo SS I bought from Joe!
Vulfix Lavender cream
5/8 Hellberg Frameback, notch point
Alum block
Cool Water A/S
I bought this razor from Joe a few weeks ago and it looked so small and dainty when it arrived that I wasn't much motivated to use it. It's about an inch shorter overall than my other razors, in near-mint condition with a cool "Skydd's Marke" etching on the blade. A very thin & delicate looking blade, I figured oh well - it's a nice collectible.
So today I decided to try a shave with it. It's so light it feels like almost nothing in the hand but it gave me a phenomenal shave. I don't know if it's the razor or Joe's honing job, probably a combination of both. This little guy now sits in the wooden jar with the favorite blades, a midget among them but every bit their equal in shaving performance.
Wed:
Rooney small style 1 brush
Williams Mug Soap
Hand American strop
5/8 TI Egyptian Palmwood
Harris face milk
First straight shave in a few days. The Egyptian was a christmas present from the wife. The factory edge was very very close, so I gave it 10 laps on the 1 micron diamond and 20 laps on the chrome oxide and got a great shave from it.
Wednesday:
Wade&Butcher 3/8" straight
SCS badger brush
Kaloderma Classic shaving cream
Booster Aquarius A/S
Herban Cowboy A/S balm
Hot Shower
6/8 Dorko
proraso pre shave
Mama bear sample rose cream
silvertip badger brush
Old Spice
Very nice shave.
Managed 1st shave in uh, 2 weeks... nice one (but not stellar)
Honeybee Chamomile soap
Little Cutie
8/8 W&B Barber's use
TM strop
GFT Coral Skin Food
I don't shave every day but this time growth was crazy! Figured 8/8 W&B is better suited than others, esp with my inability to move left arm much, I decided to bank on size and momentum.
Last time the razor was not too smooth. This time I had several laps on the yellow Belgian and, with the ridiculous growth, the razor felt much smoother. Did not manage to nick / cut myself - big surprise, with the dislocated elbow and all. Couldn't stretch the skin so I hope I don't get burn later
Cheers
Ivo
shower
50 50 Kent brush
Mamma bear's Citrus and Basil soap
Wittex linen $ leather strop
TI 7/8 red stamina Sheffield
Coral skin food.
Basically this was to test if the great shave I got last time was because of the TAGMSC soap or because of the razor. It's the soap. I basically had a battle between MB's soap and the TAGMSC soap and the latter won. Maybe once I get an EO soap from mammabear it'll perform better because this one still burns slightly. But for now TAGMSC is on top of the list.
6/8 Crown & Sword 1/4 hollow
Vulfix 2197 pure badger
JM Fraser Cream
Proraso A/S splash
Proraso pre-post
Nice shave, the razor's not 100% yet, but shows great promise.
Thursday:
The HALMA 5/8" straight
BOCK Silvertip
Musgo Real shaving cream
Musgo Real A/S classic scent
PRORASO Crema liquida dopo barba
Another Sheffield shave...
Sprock 5/8 BC RP, TGQ Orange Patchouli soap and Old Spice. Not bad for a hung over shave :D
Thursday:
Michigan Farmer 5/8 spike
Bass pure bristle brush
Proraso shave creme
C.o Bigalows Bay Rum Balm
Went in feeling down a like I had to shave, planned a one pass quickie. Three passes later came out relaxed refreshed and smooooth!
Hot shower
Proaso pre shave Menthol
Proaso cream from edgar Jager best boar
Boker 4/8 red injun (Sweet little shaver)

Otto Hess 5/8 1/4 hollow spike
SR3122 silvertip
QED Sandalwood shave stick
Alum
Musgo Real A/S splash

First shave with the Hess that I just got from another member - all I can say is that this is a great little razor and performs just as well as my 6/8 razors.

Hot Shower
6/8 Dovo Horn handles
proraso preshave
Taylor of OBS St James shaving cream
silvertip badger brush
C&E Nomad after shave balm.:y
Hot face wash (too impatient to take a shower)
Diamondine 5/8 (thanks joshearl!!)
(cheap) Van Der Hagen boar brush
Williams mug soap
First shave.. just with grain and 90deg pass on each cheek, finished up with an old Gilette travel DE.
Ant
For some reason I keep thinking there must be something wrong with my honing skills, despite the obvious proof that a fire destroyed the Satinedge's temper, so I try various things on the hones, from time to time, and it keeps failing shave-tests. I didn't like the way it shaved at all, so after about half a cheek on the first pass, I switched to the EAB Eskilstuna and got a good shave in the end.
Saturday:
TIMOR "Hamburg Ring" 5/8" straight
SMF II brush
OLIVIA's Crema Rolling Stone
Swiss Pitralon A/S
OLIVIA's A/S balm
Bruno Banani "Pure Man" EdT:nj
Hot rinse
Coconut hair conditioner rubbed into hairs
TAGMSC soap
Purpleheart Kessar 5/8 square point
Alum block
Witch hazel
Tabac a/s
Today was a great shave!
I recieved a couple of razors from Toxic and chose the Kessar bladed purpleheart a shot. The little spike point intreagued me so I gave that a go in preference to the 5/8 Lewis roundpoint he sent over as well.
Today was undeniably another step forward in terms of quality of shave, and I now know what "scary sharp" really means.
Did someone say Quattro ? Piffle, say hello to your new home (the bin).
1 quick pass down and against, job done, 20 minutes and I wasn't hurrying and as smooth as the smoothest of babies bottoms and zero irritation. One tiny nick caught on the tiniest of spots on my face. Lesson learned, a little more care is required with spike points...
Ilija,
Glad to hear the EAB is working out for you, after all (who can forget the destruction it inflicted at first... I was seriously bummed)
Cheers
Ivo
Ivo, thanks both for the gift and the sympathies. The issue was me not adjusting my stropping technique to the blade. It's a lesson learned on a strop that already survived my learning process and that will become a traveller once I can divert some cash into getting one of Tony's firsts.
T I blond horn 5/8 razor
