The razor is new to me. Was a NOS find, and I had it shave ready in no time. Shave was great, but I think I can squeeze a little more out of it. I learned this morning that a quality, well honed 5/8 will shave just as good as any of them. I'll not underestimate a 5/8 again.
Good Shaves to you Gents!

The Day: Bright and melting; up to 4ºC. The Shave: First DD shave. It seems to be all they are quacked up to be! Needs to be tweaked; still, in all, a good shave in two and an earlobe! That's a new one for me!
Vintage Williams is a great if over-hyped soap. It does the job and protects the face.
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

The more I use this razor, the more I like it! It took a while to get used to, because it's just a bit longer of a blade than my others, but what a great shaver!! One more thing, the brush is the cheapest brush I have ever seen being sold, and I love it!!

This lovely wedge-y Wheatly Bros gem was awaiting my return after a weekend away. I had two nice surprises when I opened it up as it a) had a nice Irish/French point (something I have been looking for for a while but which hadn't really shown up in the listings pics - or at least I didn't notice) and b) it was a much heavier grind than I had expected - very near to a wedge.
After giving it a good clean and soak in neatsfoot oil, I took it to the hones and reminded myself that honing a wedge like this can be both very frustrating and really rewarding. The first attempt passed all my usual tests but didn't shave worth a darn. The second was much, much better. I think I may push my luck tomorrow and see if I can dial it in more. I have a hunch that if I can get this one just right, it will be a fantastic shaver.

I'm happy to get a shave in this week. Work has been keeping me swamped, and I miss hangin' out. It's cool to see so many new faces, as well as all the familiar ones. I'll try to get back by more than once very 2 or 3 months!!
Happy shaving brothers!!

Razor | J A Hellberg | Cream | Palmolive ‘Shave’ | After Shave | Floïd
Nice shave today. The Palmolive ‘Shave’ cream is a cheap cream with a great scent that's trying real hard to be a better cream, that's trying real hard to be the Shepherd (Pulp Fiction reference there, get it?).
I think I’ll work with this cream for a few weeks to see if I can get the water/cream ratio right to see if it can shine…
Hope you’re all having a great week. Unfortunately I am an angry, angry man this week. I am the tyranny of evil men (Pulp Fiction again).
I don’t know why I just am…

That's a cool looking razor; love the tower picture!
My water heater is leaving like a sieve, I'm crossing my fingers it'll last 'till tax time, but I'm not hopeful! On of those tin baths you always see cowboys in would be cool, but I'm not sure how the family would appreciate me perched in front of the slow combustion stove in the lounge room; with or WITHOUT a cowboy hat...
Very nice old scales on that!

Bengalls really are sweet shavers. We are lucky here in Oz and NZ that they are in plentiful supply. did you hone it yourself.
Good to see you mate
I know that feeling mate. hope it passes soon.

Prep: Shower
Scuttle: Schwarzweisskeramik basic
Brush: Thater 22mm 2-band fan (4125/00)
Cream: St James of London Cedarwood & Clarysage

Astringent: Osma Alum
Aftershave: St James of London Cedarwood & Clarysage Aftershave Cologne
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d6...psb54bec14.jpg
Notes: Was attempting to use a 'scything' technique and resolutely not doing an ATG pass, trying to be as gentle to the edge and my face as possible.
I think I need more practice as WTG & XTG passes didn't yield BBS.
The razor was one I had previously attempted to hone. After a clean & polish, I re-did the bevel set. Not bad, but again, could be keener.

Prep: Hot Shower/ T&H Preshave oil
Scuttle: G5
Brush: 26mm Mountain Badger Silvertip in Juniper Handle
Soap: Cyril Salter French Vetiver SC
Razor: Elyria Hardware M.I. Germany 5/8" 1/4 hollow
Post: Hot water rinse/ cold water splash
Finish: CADE Balm
Result: I usually use Proraso pre-post cream, but today I thought I would try something different. I love the scent of citrus in the T&H oil, the performance was good, but not quite up to the level of Proraso. I have heard that it takes a few days for the oil to work in and then it performs better, maybe I'll keep at it. But it was a great 3 pass shave and the scent of the Vetiver cream finished by the CADE balm leaves me feeling like a king. A happy king, not an angry one like Carl...LOL
Have a Great Wednesday Gents!
Day 4 of the tests. I never got the pleasure of the original Cade AS from L'Occitane, but I'm pretty sure none of these has been it!
Don't drink so much bill, it is a fu...picture
