first time a little while ago with a Puma:
can see how the cat is hidden and camouflaged ..... quietly approaches the prey, and without sounds clinging it.. A NET CUT, when it seems to be satisfied, and satisfying its BBS leaves the field clear of any clue ....

Just a few hours behind my desk, then it looks like it's going to be a nice afternoon / evening at the range. :)
Yeah, I know, thing is I'm not sure I ever will. Sometimes I convince myself I can hone and then I convince myself it was just an accident, and my hair is girly girly softy softy sparse hair, and others would laugh, and maybe laugh AND point at my 'bevels'...
Nice patination on that!
Cut my neck a little today, just a little tiny nick maybe; as there was no blood whatsoever. Great superlather was made with Musgo real Orange Amber and Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad…
Anyway, last night I went to bed thinking about the speech I have to write for my son’s wedding in a few month's time At a particular point in time I jumped out of bed and scribbled some ideas. Here’s the story:
Several years ago Aaron, my eldest son; now 22 (then 15 or so), and my younger son (now 15 and then 8) went camping to our favourite place on earth; Deep Creek. While we were there we drove to the coastal area looking over to Kangaroo Island, to a beach named Morgan’s beach. On that beach were small pebbles. Half of the beach was covered in them. The boys were a little bored, but I was in tune with my surroundings, so I decided to engage them in an activity. I told them that amongst all the millions of pebbles on this particular beach there was one that spoke to them; that was ‘their’ pebble. They had to find that pebble. It had to speak to them. If they chose a pebble and saw a ‘better’ one later they could not discard the original pebble chosen. We all found our pebble. Later, back at the campfire while having a beer, I suggested we play a little game where we HAD to carry that pebble EVERYWHERE for the duration of the camping trip. Everywhere. And if someone took out their pebble, each of us must show our own, and tap it against the challenger’s pebble. If one was found to be WITHOUT his pebble, at ANY time, he then could be told to do ANY task for the challenger; washing dishes, making a cup of tea, sweeping out the tent; anything. We spent the next few days trying to catch each other without our pebbles. We bathed with them, slept with them; ensured they were with us constantly. We heard the 'tap tap tap' of our pebbles on each other's pebbles. We had fun with this simple game. I said to Aaron “Years from now, I’m going to be standing at the alter as you get married, and Joel will be there too; and I’m going to pull this pebble from my pocket and you’ll remember this weekend and laugh; and maybe cry a little…”
I still have the pebbles.
So, now the time has come to write a wedding speech for Aaron. I started along the lines of “There exists another person who is a match for each of us (blah, blah, blah) just like that day at the beach when Aaron found that pebble (blah, blah, blah), etc etc. I planned a slide show. It would be great.
Lately, though, I’ve thought that’s a bit ‘hackneyed’ a bit overdone. And it suggests Aimee, Aaron’s bride, had no say in the whole deal when 'chosen'.
So, last night I was thinking how to still use the pebble thing and meld it with something else…
That’s when I jumped out of bed and started scribbling (Swan ‘50’s fountain pen, Noodler’s Purple ink). I thought along the lines of relaying the first part of the story, and then saying that as I stood there earlier (the speech is of course at the reception after the wedding ceremony) that I had pulled my pebble from my pocket and Aaron didn’t have his.
“So now I get to decide what task he shall do” I say.
“Do I ask him (I continue in the speech) to wash my car, mow the lawns, clean out the gutters?”
A few laughs from the ‘audience’. I continue
“Do I ask him to paint the house?”
“What? What should I ask him to do? Maybe something more positive? Read a book I have loved? Visit the art gallery with me? Ask him to discuss religion, politics and philosophy with me so he ‘gets’ what I ‘get’ exactly as I ‘get’ it?
What would YOU ask your son or daughter to do if you could?” I ask.
The ‘audience’ are thinking now.
"What sort of things would you want to pass on if this ‘punishment’ for not having a pebble on one’s person was more positive than punitive?"
“To love and to be loved” I say.
“Surely there is nothing else?”
Pictures from that actual day on the beach are below, they, and photos we actually took of the pebbles will form the slide show…What do you think? Do I have the start of a speech or is it silly?

That's a very touching story Carl, and very unlike the typical male Aussie we in the northern hemisphere have come to know, your sensitive side certainly suits you.
Jamie.
What a way to start the day! The Buddel continues to impress every single time I use it. I've never even had to touch up the edge, and yet I was left nearly CBS after a single pass. This is one fine piece of steel. And of course, anytime that I pull it out, I am drawn to use the other luxuries in my den. Today was no exception!

Have a Great Wednesday Gents!
Carl, that is a wonderful story. While I will not profess to be nearly as eloquent as you, nor to know the parties as well, I do not see how Aimee could possibly find the first version to be anything but a compliment. After all, you did not tell your sons to choose a pebble unilaterally, you told them the pebble must speak to them. In other words, it was choosing them as much as they were choosing it. And the homily of dedication and loyalty is very much the story of marriage. There will be times of temptation. There will be frustrations with the one we find to share our lives with, but we can never forget that we did not marry that person because it was our own choice. We married that person because our lives spoke to one another and because apart we are merely pebbles on a beach, but when united, we are so much more. We are a laughter, we are accomplishment, we are memories, and we carry unlimited potential.
Your sons are very lucky young men, and Aimee is incredibly fortunate to be joining your family!

Pre : Hot water, Old Spice facial wash, Proraso pre-post cream
Soap : Palmolive green tube cream
Brush : Turkish "No.6"
Razor : Gillette Superspeed flare tip
Blade : Feather
Post : Proraso pre-post cream, cold water, Nivea post shave balm
Finish : BBS
Comments :
I keep forgetting just how thick the Palmolive cream can lather up. And, partly due to snobbery on my behalf, I overlook it due to its lack of cost... and it's something I've got to stop doing. Not all the best creams and soaps cost £30+

Carl, beautiful story and i hope you never lose that sensitive side to you as it is a great reflection for your sons to see what a true gentleman is really like; a myriad of things and there is nothing shameful with that! Keep expressing that love, my friend!!;)

Lavanda
So I just had to see what it was like to shave with a straight without stropping. I was a little behind schedule, and after a hot shower I stood looking at a 2 1/2 day growth, wishing I had stropped up one of my razors the night before. But I thought: that Wosty was sharper than Groucho's wit the last time I used it. Surely... I went and grabbed it. Lathered up really nice with a soaking wet brush, and proceeded with one pass, rinse, lather, second pass. No cuts, no burn, but the razor was hesitant, one could say almost shy. No sense in tempting fate with another pass. I pulled out the trusty DE with a nearly brand new blade and whipped across my face ATG. Nick city. The alum soothed, and the results feel just fine. Funny thing, the Lavanda hit my nose all wrong. I must have outgrown it.
Have a great day, all.
