Default gillette super adjustable vs modern de's.

Hello guys at the moment i have about 12 straight razors that include french spanish, square and round tips; wedges, 3/4, 1/2 and full hollows from germany, u.s.a, sweden and england and in the future i am planning to add a french, a spanish, and a japanese razors. I need another 4-6 straight razors before i stop searching ebay for more straights. Now i have been thinking of getting a de for those trips where i do not want to carry multiple precious straights or a strop along. i want to get an adjustable and i was thinking either a black beauty or a modern de under $100 that is adjustable, but i might stretch my budget for let's say a cobra. Now my beard is not too dense but it is thick (really really tough). I think that my touch with razors is light since i learned to shave with a shavette, but since i do not want to buy multiple de razors i would prefer an adjustable, of a agressive-ish de and maybe feather blades or any other high quality blade that is predictable in quality.

There is always the old Gillette Fat Boy adjustable. They are pretty good.

If a super adjustable is what you want, go for it. They work just fine. A good quality newer one will do a great job too though. Any quality DE will do a good job for you after you learn how to use it and get used to its little idiosyncrasies.

I like the super adjustable but I would love to have a brand new scratch free modern adjustable razor. Is there any modern adjustable that are under $100?

Merkur Futur also under $100. I have one and like it but don't have a Progress to compare it to. I'm sure both are perfectly capable.

The progress is a bit like an adjustable Merkur HD,and is a nice razor. The Futur is unique, and is a great razor, especially for tough beards (I have oen and the Futur is my main DE), but it is large, heavy, and very aggressive. Both are good razors.

I'd say that you will likely be very happy with a Futur, but there are some aggressive fixed head razors that are also worth considering. The Muehle R41 is an open comb razor that just mows beards down, and the Merkur Slant is another favorite that a lot of guys with tough beards get excellent results from. All of them can be obtained new for under 100 ( about 50-75 for most of them).

Given your experience and preferences, id' say get a Futur, but any of the razors I mentioned are excellent choices, and all have good reputations.

The Futur's a great razor, machined and engineered for life, but just be aware that it has a bulky head.

I usually keep a mustache so the bulky head should not be a problem. This de are not going to be my main drivers out of the 5-6 times I shave a week they will not set use more than 2 times.
