    Default Cleaning/disinfecting Gillette "New"

Does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting a Gillette "New" with gold and copper finish? I wouldn't want to use something that will destroy the plating. I'm specifically talking about what to do before the first use (since all of these are used, of course), but tips on regular cleaning and maintenance would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

I use a toothbrush to clean my old Gillette adjustable; dry-scrubbing it works well. For stubborn stains I rub it with some baking soda.
You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

Scrubbing Bubbles works well and kills most of the germs that would be on it. I just let it soak until the bubbles disappear (a few minutes) then scrub with a toothbrush, rinse and you're done.

Tell you what I do. I buy a bottle of the Scrubbing Bubbles pump spray. Pour the liquid into a rubbermaid container large enough to hold a long handled DE, such as a Merkur 39C, but not much larger. So that the contents of the one jug will completely cover the DE. I soak in that for 3 to 5 minutes. Give it a going over with a soft toothbrush and rinse thoroughly. After using the SB in the container the airtight lid will preserve it for further use.

I once left a German made Slant from before WWll in the mix for an hour or so. Got side tracked doing other things. Took the plating off. So keep an eye on the clock. For adjustable or TTO razors after rinsing I might drop the razor in another container of mineral oil and leave it overnight. Let the lubricant get all through the thing.

I've been told that the best thing to clean a gold plate razor with is Windex, and maybe a soft toothbrush. I've done this with a number of them and so far so good.

Windex seems quite popular in the world.

You're up early Bill. I've got a couple of ultrasonics and I'll give that a try the next time I have a grungy acquisition.

4 A.M. every day,I actually hate to sleep.
On most Gillettes scrubbing bubbles work great as they are made out of solid brass.
The hoffritz I destroyed was plated pot metal.SBs being on the caustic side reacted with the pot metal and really ate it up
