That battle has been fought on a dozen threads,,,I like a few,, but find some perform a little better than others.

Give them a go, you never know it might be useful to own one. Or give them to potential wetshavers assuming that you don't need to recoup the cash.
Oh and that ceramic razor stand is pretty cool.

I was wondering when somebody would notice that. I was after the brushes so in my mind the rest were freebies. I wonder how well it works and what it is made of. You think ceramic? The bowl is kind of cool too. I just use a salvation army purchase now. I will miss the smell of the soap in the room if that lid seals it off too much.

I don't really know, but it looked it, but it could be bakelite or something. You could always leave some soap out too. I like a sealed bowl, I can put my unused lather in it, pop the lid on and it is almost good to go again with a small splash of water and some extra cream in the mix.

The bowl, if bakelite, reminds me of the bowls my mother had on her dresser. Used for face powder and would come with an appropriately sized powder puff. I don't think it would be good for shaving soap or any kind of soap. Thin walled, maybe a little fragile for lather building.

I can't tell because of resolution, but the larger appears to be a 40's Super Speed, and the smaller seems to be a Travel Tech (These could change based on better photos of the razors). Also, there is a date code on the bottom of the razors (U1 or J3 or something.) The Super Speeds are a nice mild shaver good for beginners or those mornings when you have go to have a quick once over. All standard DE blades will fit in them. As to your question about the "best" DE blade, that goes into the YMMV thing again. I have found that there is usually a combination of face, razor, blade and lather that yields perfect results in some sort of voodoo. The "best" blade you have seen bandied about is usually the Feather Hi Stainless. It is considered to be among the sharpest blades currently produced. I have them, but they sometimes seem a little harsh on occasion. I, personally, have better results in my EJ DE89 with Bolzano Superinox blades and in the Super Adjustable with those or 7 o'clock yellows. Polsilver Iridiums are also nice.
I am just starting on my straight razor knowledge and use, so I use the DE to clean up/judge efficacy of my straight shave.

That's really crass.

However, now that the gate is open, keep me in mind when you want to dump inventory.

I used one of the screw-top Gillettes when I was in service (back when they were, uh, new-in-box). I regularly shredded my neck with them. I have lately wondered if it was the razor, my skin or absence of prep and technique. Dad used one a few times and gave it to me. Maybe that should've told me something. He went back to his big pop-top dial-an-edge version.

This is beginning to sound like another bloody learning experience. I remember my dad using them. It seems like once a week he went out the door with a piece of toilet paper stuck on his face with a little red spot in the middle of it. Maybe not that often, you know how memories are :<0) So I am still not really pumped up about this but I guess I am going to have to try it.
