    Default just bought this...need help/advice!!

I've been SR shaving for a little while now but ran across this Gillette DE while browsing antique stores. I've read a couple threads and it sounds like I should find a sample pack of blades. Anything else I should know before I give this a go? I grabbed the DE for touch ups on the lower part of my neck that I can't get a SR to cut very well...that and the bling factor

    Thanks,

    Chris

Sounds like you are on the right track. i have a couple DEs but haven't given them to much time TBH. Might not be a bad idea to revisit them and see how I like them after wetshaving for a bit now.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Nice find. Looks like a ball end Tech to me.

DE's do have their own learning curve. The trick is to find the lowest cutting angle and to maintain it during the entire stroke by locking your wrist. Also, use as little pressure as possible - literally the weight of the head is all that's necessary. A blade sampler would be the best way to go.

Thanks - going to remember that, "the trick is to find...."

The Gillette Tech is a very mild shaver. Perfect for a first DE.

Thanks guys! I'm really excited to try it. Ordered a couple 5 blade packs from WCS. This razor brings back memories of my great grandfather...his DE was always in its stand next to an old spice shaving mug. I knew him very well as he lived into my early twenties and can't wait for my mother to see this razor whenever she comes up this way!

Ok, 1 full face shave and 2 neck only touch ups and I like where this is headed!! I bought the DE on a whim with the intention of using it for the lower area of my neck that I don't get very well with the SR. First time I tried it, I used a little too much pressure and that area of my neck hasn't seen a true ATG pass so while it was MUCH closer, the irritation was pretty bad. 2 days later, I tried the DE on my whole face with pretty good results. Not as smooth as my SR and definitely not as long lasting but faster and I was better with the pressure but still got some irritation on my neck. Yesterday, neck only again...irritation is getting better as well as my use of light pressure. Overall, I am very pleased with the performance of the DE and will definitely use keep using it!!

Thanks to all the previous posters in these DE threads! There was a lot of great info and great advice!! It made the 'leap' that much easier

A Gillette ball end tech that looks in pretty good shape for its age. Best of luck.

If in in a rush I use a mercur 38c with a feather blade. I still lather as I can do that pretty quickly. I let the brush soak while I shower and use a soap that lathers pretty fast. One pass with the DE with little touch ups in my heavier spots and a splash off with cold water and I am good. 3-5 mins tops.
