Has anybody noticed a difference in shaves between these two types of heads. I am stating to think that the New Improved head gives a smoother less harsh shave.

I always forget which is which, but at one time the earlier of the two was the one guys seemed to think was the 'better' of the two. For smooth shaving I mean.
I wouldn't kick either one of them out of the shave den ..... ;)

If I got it right the New Improved head came first then the New Head. Sure makes for some confusion don't it. Thanks I wasn't just dreaming it then. Yea, the New Head seems to be harsher/more aggressive but I don't think it shaves any closer than the New Improved predecessor for all the extra roughness.

I headshave with both models, cannot discern any diff.
Well, technically the New Improved was designed for thicker blades, so it may not be as optimized for the thinner modern blades as the NEW.
This is complicated by the fact that the NEW came in three distinct varieties - the long-comb NEW, the short-comb NEW and the NEW Deluxe.
Of the bunch, the NEW Deluxe is the best head version, as far as I'm concerned. It also came in several models - Norfolk, Belmont, etc.
The others are pretty much the same. Slightly aggressive when compared to the SuperSpeeds. I like them all, but love the NEW Deluxe.
Trying to figure out Gillette head styles and models can get a bit confusing. Far as I know I have a gold Tuckaway with New Improved head from 1925 and she is one smooth close shaver.
