Suggest new twist to open/butterfly safety

Hey all-

My dad uses an older twist to open that is halfway broken, so he can only use one side. He said he'd like a new one so I thought I'd get him one for Christmas. Can anyone suggest a new manufacturer with a butterfly feature? I think I saw Feather makes one for around $22 which seems like a good deal but don't know why it's so much cheaper than their others.

That would be a Feather Popular which is made of metal and plastic but very well made for the money. It comes in a plastic case and one Feather blade. A very nice razor for the money and shaves pretty good. Other TTO models are Parker and Cadet. All under $30.00

I have a Parker 22R, which is a modern TTO razor that goes for around $25 IIRC. I don't mind saying that with that razor you get what you pay for. It shaves but it doesn't like many blade brands and the blade exposure is uneven per side, which is a known defect of these razors.

I can't speak for the Cadet or the Feather Popular, but you might be better off trying to find a vintage TTO Gillette. JMO.

Vintage is probably better than new. You can get a vintage Gillette that looks like new for about the price of the Feather.

It you must have a new razor, then Feather, Cadet, etc. are all good. The Feather is pretty mild, while the cadet and Parker razors are a little more aggressive.

On the more expensive end, there's the Merkur Vision. It's a lot more expensive.

Thanks guys. He also likes that his is adjustable, so yeah maybe this is pointing to a Gillette slim adjustable or something similar.
He mentioned new cause he wanted something in good condition, but there are plenty of mint Gillette's on eBay seems like.

+1 on the Gillette Slim. Prices tend to be a little higher this time of year, but I got this one not too long ago for $25. It cleaned up nicely and shaves great. Check the B/S/T forums here and on the other shaving boards frequently. You will find better prices and usually don't have to worry as much about the quality.

Above the Tie and another site that I can't remember also have replated razors for sale from time to time. I use a Gillette Slim Adjustable that was replated. Just another idea for you. Remember if you get used to clean and sanitize it good first. I always soak a DE in Barbicide for about 30 to 45 minutes with a good cold water rinse after before I use them the first time.

I read a long standing thread somewhere here on SRP that was talking about vintage razors and cleaning. I think the general consensus was that if you don't mind waiting a few weeks to use it then you wouldn't have to do anything but clean it up with soap and water to get any old soap residue and gunk off. Apparently any infectious stuff won't live on surfaces like razors for longer than that period...

Yeah I didn't even think to ask if there others that were just simple to load, regardless of TTO. I'll check it out.
