Yes they were definitely built to last, perhaps unknowingly at the time. They were practically given away as well. Just imagine how much a Gillette Fat Boy with all that inbuilt engineering would cost if made in today's market place.

I have ended up giving away all my new DEs and keeping my old vintage ones. They seem to be much better than the newer ones. Just picked up an autostrop and tested it out tonight and I love it. Nothing can replace my straights (most of those are old as well) though.
I do love my vintage DE's, but I truly adore My Muhle R41 Grande... I have an R89 Grande ordered, but its back ordered so... I wait.
