oh yea the top half comes off.
It kind of likes like a tube for a stick of shaving soap.
Yeah, looks like a shave stick box to me
Looks like one of these...Holds talc, brush or soap stick...

Like HaiKarate said, either brush or soap.
Couldn't it hold the whole razor if the handle were unscrewed?
I actually wouldn't mind getting one of those.
Here's the shave stick ones I have.

thanks guys! makes perfect sense!! NOW I KNOW LOL . Prob a travel type thing.
Yes, many of that size carried travel Gillettes with the short handles.

Some very old SE razors came in canisters as well, though that does not appear to have been painted with any branding.
I have a safety razor in a canister , if I remember I'll get a pic and post it. It's very small maybe the size of a shaving brush handle. I also have another safety razor in a tin that may be a little bigger then a blade storage case
Star lather catchers came in a yellow painted tin but not that style. A few other lather catchers as well came in cylinders.
Talcum powder & soap. It was probably once in a kit, complete with a straight razor. I have a Gillette that came with those. As you can see, it also has blade canisters.
