    Default Busted out my DE...why?

Well, I decided to shave with my safety razor tonight. Put a new blade in, prepped,, shaved. Got all kinds of weepers and cuts, mostly on the neck. Got out of practice?? Guess I will stick with my str8s.

I detoured into the DE for a few years, getting great shaves. Returned to the straights a few months back. Picked up the DE again one morning this week, and…

Last several days due to time constraints I've used my DE. guess my expierence is different fast shave super smooth no cuts. I'd practically have to try to cut myself with a DE. don't get me wrong not giving up on straights. In fact I just freshened up 3 of my favorite blades as they will be back in action starting tomorrow.

I don't get cuts or weepers with my DE, but I did with several DE's before I found the perfect one for me. I also know what my favourite blade is(through trial and error) and I use the DE a fair bit nowadays too, so Im practiced and comfortable I guess.

If you get regular cuts and weepers you just haven't honed in on your perfect set up or you're out of practice, tiz all. Same with straights….

I love my straights however I have owned a few bad ones that left cuts and weepers or just felt bad. I find good straights are just as close (except on the neck for me) and gentle, but if I'm short of time or feel like a neck BSS, then my favourite DE just can't be beat.

My favourite DE combo is a Merkur Futur and Red Personna platinum. Open wide for a couple of days stubble or closed real tight for a quick ATG blade buff….. Nice….

Still have to watch your angle and pressure on them too, the name "safety razor" is kinda misleading they should have called them the "Safer razor"

My favorite setup is my Merkur Slant with a Feather blade - makes for a sticky smooth head shave

    Gentlemen,
I use my double edge razor several times a month and enjoy the shave thoroughly, without any cuts or weepers. The DE and the straight are sassy in their own way and demand respect.

I used a DE recently for two weeks (stitches in hands).

First shave had the Gillette set to 5 and got some weepers. Next shave went to 4 and all was well.

Used Personna SS and got good, close shaves. May use it again sometime soon.

Like anything else, DE shaving rewards consistent practice. If you abandon it for a while, you'll have expect a short relearning period.

I was using my DE regularly and found a blade that worked great, guess I just "lost the touch" from neglecting it for a length of time. I am not getting rid of it, and will use it again in the future.
