Default NEW Feather AS-D2 Adjustable DE

The new Feather DE razorreceives numerous accolades on this blog. It is a superbly mild razor withbeautiful craftsmanship. However, a frequent criticism is that it is too mild. The one you see here, I purchased for my wife who gave it back to me because itwas too mild compared to her Muhle, Merkur, and Edwin Jagger models. I canconfirm that the new AS-D2 and its predecessor are among the mildest ofshavers. Perhaps too mild for those of us with a thick beard.

Ishaved with it for a week and concluded that it is a mild shaver that may be preferredby those with very sensitive skin. However, it required two or three passes tomatch the closeness of one pass with my aggressively dialed adjustable. That iswhen it occurred to me that the flat smooth base plate might allow spacers tolift the blade.

Hereis a solution for those who do not mind a little fabrication.

    1. Dulla couple of DE razor blades and remove a few mm ofmetal stock with a high speed-cutting tool.

2.Sand the spacers on edge, and on both sides to remove any burr.

3.Insert so that the spacers lift the blade off the base plate and you will gofrom mild to moderate.

Onespacer made a little difference. Two is about right for me. However, the mount holds as many as four. The benefit of this solution is that it preserves the razor.

I don't know. I don't have peachfuzz and the the thing gives me a great close shave without any modifications.

You are absolutely correct. Allow me to confirm again that the Feather is an excellent DE as is, without any modification. There may be no better razor for nibbling away whiskers while barely touching the skin. I would use it as is for a daily shaver, and I recommend it for a any newcomers to wet shaving. However, for some experienced wet shavers a little more bite may be preferred on the first pass - IMHO.
