I am now 28 and just started using a DE and a straight. It just took a combination of seeing James Bond (Daniel Craig shaving with a straight, My Hero) Being tired of throwing money away on cartridge razors, and knowing that sometimes the good old fashion way works better. I have always been a firm believer in taking pride in your appearance. You cant teach that to someone, you either care or you don't. Hopefully your son will care and take pride in the way he shaves

I just started myself (47) with a DE. My son, 19.5 yrs old, has been shaving for a couple of years. I played several of those shaving videos with the old-time jazz background music, etc. He wanted to jump straight to the straight razor. I know why. Its the whole 'shaving like a man' thing. He tells his friends. He loves it. He does it every day. Plus, it clears up his acne. he is hooked at this point. i told him now was the time, since his facial hair is not too thick yet, by the time it thickens, he will have it down. His mom likes it (not at first) because he is extremely neat in his shaving area in the bathroom for the first time in his life. He has a razor, cup, brush, etc. He thoroughly cleans it each day and stacks it up neatly. His mom is pleased. He feels some ownership.

We did the same with his first vehicle (little truck) being a standard shift instead of automatic.

I figured he can always change his shaving habits later, but its like riding a bike....or driving a stick. He will always be able.

Im more excited about getting him going than he is. I have his razor picked out of my collection an ready to get him interested. In the next year hes going to have to start shaving. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Don't do what my dad did! He let me use his electric razor and said, just go over it, you aren't going to get all of the whiskers but let the rest go.

I couldn't stand the poor results so I went for every newfangled, multiblade "solution" I could find the next 40 years. When I couldn't stand the multiblade it was back to the electric.

I didn't get good shaves until 2010 when I finally got my second DE razor (the first was defective). But I couldn't leave well enough alone and persevered until I mastered the straight razor.

Conclusion: don't present shaving as a necessary evil like my dad did to me. Present it as a new phase of every man's life, but a positive way to look sharp, feel sharp, and be sharp (where have I heard "look sharp, feel sharp, be sharp" before?).

I have a tech that needs restoring. Its in the original box with some blue blades. I think if he is interested may let him have that one an he can restore it while I restore a gold one band I have laying around.
