    Default couple of noob questions

Why do the blades have numbers on them? Why exactly do you need two edges? is it so you dont have to rinse as much? are you supposed to use one side one time, and the other the next?
How long should I expect each blade to last?

Thanks for answering my dumb questions.

2 edges should last twice as long. I use both sides during the same shave. Shave one line, flip shave another Line, rinse. Not sure about the numbers.

Why do the blades have numbers on them?
I would assume that it is because different blades have different sizes

Why exactly do you need two edges?
the hair and dead skin will inevitably clog the razor so having another side allows you to " keep going "

is it so you dont have to rinse as much?

    yes

are you supposed to use one side one time,

    personal preferance

How long should I expect each blade to last?

until it becomes uncomfortable to shave with it or until it becomes dull. Its more about how often you shave and how course your stubble/beard is

Thanks for answering my dumb questions.

The same reason other mechanical parts have numbers on them,,, manufacturing specifics, inventory,,, etc.,,,

You don't need two edges,,,, for many years there was only one edge,,,,for example straight razors & single edge blades.

Some people don't rinse,,, they wipe , swish in a bowl of water,,,,,,,

You can use any side, whenever you want, your imagination is the limit,,,,,

Many factors decide how long a blade lasts,,, brand, care & maintenance, beard/facial hair type, preshave preparation, creams, soaps, etc,,,,,,,

Astra DE blades have numbers 1 thru 4. I use that as a guide, when I shave with my DE, to remember which edge I'm using so when it dulls I can go on to the next number and avoid the dull edge. I can generally get three shaves per number.

The numbers are for manufacturing purposes only.

A double edge razor blade is just that, "double edged". There are only two edges, not four. Each opposite side of the blade has an edge. There is no need to flip a blade. If you want to, fine, do it. Whether you flip or not, you are still using the same edge. The more you handle a blade, the more you are apt to dull it one way or another.

By flipping I mean turning the handle to use the other edge. I do not take the blade out. I am new at this so my terminology may be confusing.
