Been debating about getting a Merkur slant just to see what all the fuss was about. I guess at some point it is almost inevitable that I will.

The Slant, in my opinion, is a curiosity, equalled by many other razors. The current R41 is the best you can currently purchase. But anyone as into shaving as you appear to be must experience the previous version. Shave equal to a straight, with some margin of safety there if you know what you're doing. My 2 cents.
I'm with you on this one....I purchased the Merkur Sledgehammer DE, heard it was the closest to a straight, and frankly, I didn't really notice much, if any difference between it and my Gillette Aristocrat. If anything, I found upping the setting on my FatBoy I could get a more aggressive shave. Either way, I get varying degrees of neck irritation with a DE that I never get with a straight.

I bet I'll end up get two of them aarraaaggghhh
Keep in mind you don't have to couple the R41 with the "sharpest" or most "aggressive" blade. I use Wilkinson with mine, I'll try a feather out some day but for now I'm quite happy.

I love the Merkur slant. It is one of my go to DE's. Its all about what works for you. Buy them both an try them. What you don't want push off on one of us poor addicts.

Comes highly recommended by a lot of people so you should be good to go.

I have an R41 coming to me in a Pass sometime soon. I am mystifyed about the love/hate associated with this razor and will report first impressions.
