Default Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed Safety Razor

So during my salvage run this weekend I scored thus little beauty. I had never tried one before so I picked it up and cleaned her up.

Tried her out last night and I finally see the allure. It wasn't as aggressive as the straight and I had to take a few passes to get the angle right. It really meses with you head to hold at that angle....

It could have been closer, regrowth is occuring as we speak. Lol

Think I will look these up. I have passed them by in the past, I wont be making the same mistake in the future.

I started wet shaving with one just like it. went to a slim adjustable after that. they are fun to shave with and all the different varieties (most of which are very affordable) make them a fun to have. right now i'm stuck on the straight but they are handy to keep around for when you are in a hurry.

I am definitely feeling the straight fever. But its nice to try out. The Mrs wants to give it a go. Maybe I can eliminate those pink things from the house soon.

great idea to get the SWMBO involved, always helps to have her on your side. maybe you can find her one of the blue handled lady gillettes!

Nice little razor! It would make a good backup/travel razor or a gift as mentioned.

I got an old Gillette TTO with the intent of trading someone for a straight but I just love it and shave with it twice a week now.

Yes, they are a nice mild shaver, not too aggressive at all. Get a sampler pack of blades and you may find a brand that shaves closer in it.

I just pulled one out of the bay and gave it a try. Have to say they are cute compared to my EJ89 but very nice and your description matches what I experienced as well. Mine has a black tip and I remember seeing others with red and blue tips but I'm not sure whether they perform any differently. You know anything about em?

Unfortunately I am not a safety razor expert. Really new to this style. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Safety_Razor_Database
Has a database to figure out you model (its clunky) but it may give some insight into the model.

I did throw a feather blade into her and she was a bit more aggressive. Thanks BobH

Or post a photo here I am sure the guys will have something for you.

The red coloured flare tip is supposed to be more aggressive than the silver one and the blue coloured flare tip mildest IIRC. If you are looking for a much more aggressive vintage Gillette that shaves close try the Open Comb ones or an adjustable set @ 9, well maybe work up to 9 in stages.
