How do you take care of a safety razor after a shave?
Hi, i remove the blade and rinse razor and blade. then i strop with a tovel to remove moisture. Than left it in its stand till next shave. i always store blade away
Give it a final rinse under running water, shake the excess off and put away to dry. When I notice it getting ugly I remove the blade and give it a thorough cleaning. Lately I have been using no bleach Scrubbing Bubbles and a soft tooth brush for that.

I wipe everything down when I'm done. I usually use a 3 piece but sometimes an adjustable Fat boy. All pieces including the blade gets wiped down dry, put back together and put in a stand. My adjustable I dry with a towel and blast the rest of the water out with a computer air duster.
I set the razor on the counter, and ever so carefully, walk away. This protocol has worked for years.
For the three piece units I partially unscrew it rinse it well and leave it to dry.
Rinse it after each shave,,,, when the blade is ready to be changed, I use the liquid hand soap that on the sink & a soft toothbrush to clean it & let it stay open until I decide to use it again.
Alex7,
+1 to the previous posts.
Like, Hirlau, I clean the razor when changing blades.
The easiest way is to spray the disembled razor with a gentle bathroom cleaner (I use CIF - anything that says it removes 'soap scum'), leave to soak for a few minutes, then scrub with an old tooth brush, rinse with hot water and dry.
Have fun :)
Best regards

I thoroughly clean the razor and give the blade a careful wipe each time. The reason I do this is that I only use a DE about once every 3 weeks. If I was using it as a daily shaver I would probably do as PhatMan said and leave the full clean to blade change time - just do a rinse and dry each use.
With a three piece, I rinse it off and just towel dry it being careful not to contact the blade. With a TTO I rinse it off, remove the blade, towel dry the razor, put the blade back in, and put it in the cabinet. I don't like to contact the blade any more than necessary. When the blade is changed (5-7 days), I rinse and clean them with Scrubbing Bubbles (non-bleach version) and a toothbrush.

After a shave, I rinse it, shake it, and put it away.
When I changing the blade, I remove the blade, give the razor a dry-brushing with an old toothbrush to remove the caked-on soap, and then insert the new blade.
Rinse it good, shake it good, store it good. When that puppy starts getting scummy, take it apart and clean it good.
i shaved with a slim for years and used to just rinse it under hot water. shake it, and put it away.
I later used plastic disposible single bades for a long time, but went back to DEs when I rediscovered wet shaving. Using Merkur Vision, 34G, and 37C, I found that these alloy razors resisted the start of corrosion better if I removed the blade, rinsed, wipe dried, blew moisture out of crevases, wiped and reinstalled the blade.
I also reacquired some plated brass Gillettes. Using the same cleaning routine, they stayed much cleaner than when only rinsing and shaking the razor.
I consider the enhanced maintenance indispensible with alloy razors for their longevity, but mostly a cosmetic convenience for the Gillettes.
HTH.
I just give it a good rinse and a couple shakes then stick it back in the cabinet. When changing blades sometimes a bit more cleaning is done.
Good advice. Found CIF Bathroom Ultrafast. Will begin to use it. Weird question, but how often do you guys replace the toothbrush that you use to clean the safety razors with?
When it's not being effective.
"CIF bathroom" for me usually means "abrasive". Hope yours isn't, cos that stuff will damage plating on razors.
It was recommended to me as an alternative to scrubbing bubbles https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum...2#post-8932413.
I don't remove the blade or loosen the head until it's time to change the blade. Between shaves I just rinse the razor under hot water and wipe it dry.
30 seconds regular care

Thanks. Short and effective.
I remove the blade, rinse everything well and air dry. If needed, I'll wipe with a wash cloth too. I also use the scrubbing bubbles for a good hour long soak every week or so.
How nice is the razor you shave with? Mine are antiques in pristine condition, not what are termed "user grade" for lack of a better term. Water stains silver, rhodium and gold and diminishes the razor (IMHO). I started as a straight razor user and quickly became phobic about water and water stains. So post DE shave I remove the blade, dry it and then dry and blow my razor with pressurized air. A quick buff with a dry towel and replace the blade. I leave the wings up. You do what you feel comfortable with and enjoy your shaves.
I religiously clean and dry my straight razors after use. My DEs/SEs get a rinse under the tap, a quick shake and back in the rack they go. When the spirit moves me, that is not all too often, I will strip, clean and dry my DEs/SEs.

My everyday routine is to hold it under running water, shake the excess water off and place on the stand to dry. Once a week I give it a good scrubbing with an old tooth brush with some Palmolive body wash on, the wipe it on a towel and leave it to dry.
Once a month I scrub it with just the tooth brush, then spray a few puffs of WD-40, wipe it with a rag and place it on the stand.
BTW I use a Parker 99R.
Gentlemen,
I wash my razors with soap and water, dry them with a cloth, run a Q-Tip in all the little hole, and then leave them open for a while before returning them to the rack. About once a month, I give my razors a gentle scrubbing with a soft toothbrush and soap. I like things clean and spotless.
I am much more precious about cleaning my straights than my DEs.
The DE blades are stainless and the razors I have are either stainless or plated. I simply rinse them well and dry them with a towel. The drying process included a strop motion on the towel with the blade still in the razor. I change the blade when it seems necessary. Sometimes when I replace the blade I'll give the razor a going over with a toothbrush.
I have never had any problems with any of my razors, I have passed several of them on (since I picked up straights) to new homes and the new owners have always been happy with them.
Having said all of that they were all bought new, things might be different if they were vintage.
I rinse them under hot water and then dry them with a cloth. When it comes time to change the blade I wipe out the inside. With a 3 piece I disassemble it and give it a good cleaning, then leave it apart to dry. Hot water is sufficient for me, I don't use any cleaning products on them.
