Gents, I love straight shaving but can't/won't give up on safeties. Enjoy those shaves just as much. I have a Feather stainless and love it, but would like to acquire a second safety offering a mild shave. I can't spend a bomb but want a quality razor. I thought I might hit y'all up for some suggestions. They would be much appreciated. A sincere thank you in advance for any and all advice. Cheers!
Do you want a new or vintage razor?
If vintage is okay, my suggestion would be. Gillette Super Speed.
Safety Razor Aggressiveness
This link gives some examples of razors rated at different ranks of aggressiveness.
My suggestion for a nice shaver and a piece of history would be a Gillette '04. WW1 or before. Good solid razor and value.
For vintage mild a Gillette Tech or Super Speed. Should not be expensive if you look around.

My favorites are Erwin Jagger DE 89 Extra Grip, Merkur 38 or 34C and the Gillette Slim Adjustable, With the personally comfortable blade (sample pack suggested) you should get a enjoyable BBS
im like you where i like a more mild razor !! i like the super speeds and slims where you can adjust and pick your poison , and of new razors i couldnt tell you cause i only own one and its is now one of my favorite DE .. Merkur Futur on settings 1-3
I love vintage razors. That said, I've found a source for restored Gillette Slims in the UK. Very attractive and well priced. Love the fact that they are adjustable too. Would allow me the option of testing the settings until I find the sweet spot. I'm definitely leaning this way.Quote:

Edwin Jagger DE89L is a great razor looks great as well,
If your wanting vintage as mentioned already, Gillette super speed or the Slim are both great razors and good examples can be found for similar prices to the Edwin Jagger.
I would possibly lean towards a Gillette slim adjustable as its a nice weight, just over 70grams, and has a wider handle than a super speed
I believe your Feather Stainless is about 90Grams,
and Super speeds vary depending on which one but they tend to be about 55grams in weight, and they do have a slim handle
And an Edwin Jagger is about 75grams in weight (Well mine is, it does have a Muhle handle but I believe its the same weight)
Im lucky enough to own all of the above mentioned razors (except the Feather SS) and they all give good shaves, but as mentioned you maybe be used to a heavier weight of razor and may like something similar ie the Gillette Slim

The Slim was a good choice. I honestly believe that it was Gillette's best ever razor. The head design, balance and beauty are all top-notch.

I'm a bit late to this party, but I just bought an Edwin Jagger DE89Bl. At 59 years, I have never used a DE razor until tonight. I decided to do one or two of the easy swipes with a straight and then shaved 90% with the DE. I got a very comfortable shave with the Derby blades that came with it and it is about as close as a straight razor shave. So, although I am a total rookie with a DE, this one is a dream. Highly recommended (bearing in mind that this is a statistical sample of ONE and my only DE shave ever).

For a mild shave with a Vintage Razor you could try a Gillette Tech like mine they are readily available at a fair price and give a really nice shave. If you pair one with a Stainless handle it works well.
