Would this help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns9Q...ature=youtu.be .

Oh yeah ,,,,that explains it :<0)
Thanks Bob,
I reviewed it, it addresses putting the cartridge back in (from the bottom), which is where I continue to be stuck..
I appreciate your help!
Sorry, I wasn't clear
I continue to be baffled....(beyond my imagination)Thanks
Sorry I misunderstood you. It seems like the mark on the top cap has to line up with the mark on the base plate of the head to start with. The compression ring needs to be compressed to get the adjusting rod into the handle. Then you have to check which number on the adjusting handle lines up with the mark on the handle to start the threading. Seems like there are only 3 pieces disassembled to put back together maybe 4 if the compression ring falls off. Well, at least that what I thought I saw viewing the vid.
I don't have that Merkur to play though.

I think the key part, aside from compressing the ring to get the adjusting rod in, is to make sure to have those reference marks matching on the 2 head pieces. If they don't match then you start to thread the adjusting piece at the wrong start point on the threads. That means that when fully threaded the number 1 will not line up with the index mark on the handle.

I took mine apart once. The tricky part is the compression ring. You need a needle nose pliers to push it together. Then the upper sleeve will fit over the internal assembly.

Thanks all, got it. Compression ring was not compressing as it had slid down the shaft, once I pushed it back up, it came together.
Thanks much
There ya go, sometimes if you walk away for a bit and come back to it the coin drops. Happens to me quite a bit.
