Thread: Double edge blade sharpining

Those old sharpeners were designed for folks who were on the frugal side who thought they could coax a few extra shaves out of a blade. if you didn't mind some discomfort they worked...to a point.

As has been said, modern blades are much thinner, cheaper and have coatings and are inappropriate for those devices.

I shave twice a week,do to some physical limitations (early onset parkinsons) I rarely use my straights anymore.
I use feathers,new blade every shave,works for me,not worth the effort to try and sharpen them.

Is your hair made out of antiantium or titanium Maybe cause I could get at least 5 shaves out of a feather.... wow

Yes . . . for the cost of an individual blade, why would anyone BOTHER to attempt to sharpen one?

My heritage is Dutch, so I tend to want to get 10 cents out of every nickel. That being said, I bin my blades after four shaves.

I' sure they worked quite well as transference devices...money from your pocket to the manufacturers!

at a dime a piece, i change blades each day. my wife also DE shaves. each day after i shave with a new blade, i give her my old (used once) blade. next day, i rotate again.

i found it frustrating to squeeze shaves from a blade, as there is always some level of weepers, burn, nicks, etc.

no matter how good you are, a new blade is always a better shave.

life's too short to sacrifice a great shave for $0.10.
