    Default Fatboy Help

After soaking my Fatboy overnight in Dawn, I still have resistance when turning the Adjust settings, It was pretty gunked up when I got it, and I bet the insides need a good cleaning.

Does anyone here take apart and clean/readjust Adjustables? or know how to instruct me to do it?

    Thanks!

    Cheers,

    Zane

Try WD-40, it may loosen up the gunk.
Another option would be Brake Cleaner.

They can be taken apart for restoration. I personally haven't had to go to that extreme with one yet. Soaking in wd40 or PB blaster normally does the trick for me. You may try soaking it in a jar of wd40 an every day try an move the settings an top a little. Eventually it will loosen up an then be ready to clean. This has worked well for me on a few. If that doesn't help I believe there is videos on you tube for disassembly.

If you do use brake cleaner, as with gun parts ,use the newer non-chlorinated type. You will also have to rub it down with oil and then rub that off as the brake cleaner will really dry out the metal, but it does blast out gunk.

I have found that a soak in white or apple cider vinegar to remove soap crud very well. Also the scrubbing bubbles do also. first the vinegar soak for 15 min then the citrus or bathroom cleaner. Do it a couple times and a slight wiggle will become free motion after a while.

Some FatBoys do not come apart as neatly as the video shows. Different nut on the bottom.

I have cleaned up dozens of adjustables and have soaked them in hot water with success. Also try putting it on 1 and cleaning between the head and the adjusting plate. After cleaning get some kind of oil in there and let it soak. I wouldn't disassembling unless you really need to.

I usually use touch of WD-40 on my Slim and Fat Boy and TTO's, every so often clean with an old brush and toothpaste on all my razors when needed.

I had a really stiff working Fat Boy a while back and soaking in Scrubbing Bubbles helped but didn't fix the problem. So, I took a pan of water, sprayed some Scrubbing Bubbles into the water and put the pan on the stove and let it all boil for about 20 minutes. After letting it dry I oiled it with mineral oil and it worked fine after that.

Another time I had a pretty cruddy Gillette SS that Scrubbing Bubbles didn't work so well on so I got the bright idea of using some GM Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor (heat valve lubricant) and it worked great but had a very hard time getting that (petroleum) smell out of the razor.....I won't use that again! I don't remember cause its been a long time ago but I think I had to boil it like mentioned above (Scrubbing Bubbles & water) to get rid of the smell.
