    Default Mongoose Razor -Why?

Have straights, open and closed comb slants, Feather SS and Dovo shavette that takes 3 blade types. Why is it again that a Mongoose SE razor is advantageous?

I'm not sure that is the case. it's just another variation. Some will like the large size and single edge blade and heft of the thing.

Like they say there is something for everyone. Besides, right now the in thing are fancy all stainless safety razors. It seems everyone is coming out with one and they pretty much all seem to be selling very well.

Right on. A personal preference thing. Good to know. Was thinking that there might be some advantage in the shaving aspect. The cutting surface of both sides of a DE with a flip of the wrist must be about the same. I use the SE blades in my other razors with good success. Good looking piece of equipment though. Thanks for the response.

    Gentlemen,

I don't think I have read any comments about shaving with the Mongoose being advantageous over other double or single edge razors. Mongoose is just a different razor.

Starting with tomorrow's shave, I plan the spend the entire week with the Mongoose so that I can learn it. Thus far in my experience with the Mongoose, I feel it is less efficient than the Wolfman. Both razors are silky smooth shavers, but the Wolfman has the edge as a perfectly efficient shaver. Still, I need to shave a wee bit longer with the Mongoose to determine for myself if it deserves all the accolades.

Mongoose is basically the closet a SE or DE razor will get to SR results. Not only my opinion, and of course YMMV
I have Muhle R41, Gillette Slim Adjustable, and I had Merkur Futur, none provides results like the Mongoose. Smoothness of shaves is similar for all, but the Mongoose takes the longest for the stubble to show.
One day I'll try an ATT and see how that compares.

Thanks for the tip on the Wolfman, I will check it out. No doubt that the new SE razors will have a niche market with an ultra loyal following - they always have, even pre Mongoose. I'm doubtful about the game changing hype on this product though. You know, it occurs to me that the market spoke on this issue long ago. That's why the Patriots play in Gillette stadium and not Gem stadium. Know what I mean?

Mainaman- have you ever used a Feather Pro SE in a DX or Artist's Club model? Any guidance as to how that shaves compared to Mongoose?

Never used other SE, but according to a lot of people that have used other SE the Mongoose is the best so far. Give it a try, if you do not like it it will resell with no loss.

I have only used a gem g bar s/e and found the shave much better than the d/e razors I have tried. I have a couple of gem open combs coming from eBay, if they are as good as the g bar I will probably sell the d/e's I have accumulated.

I have a Mongoose and it does provide a very nice shave. I have been using the Feather Pro blades in it with much success.

I also have the Feather Artist Razor. Different animal. I need to be very careful using it as it is not a forgiving razor.

    Have fun.
