I really hate those glue/wax dots on DE blades and I've been using lighter fluid to wipe the blades clean. I hope I'm not damaging the blades in any way, what do you think?
I thought only Astra blades have glue dots on them, but Feathers do as well.

Not sure what it is on the Astra but. Use only feathers in my DE haven't noticed a problem, I've been shaving with a DE for over 40 years and never had any blades with glue dots, but their not on the edge, what is it your accomplishing by wiping them?, as too will it hurt I doubt it. Tc
Let me see if i can find a picture of a Feather blade...I'll take some HQ pics with my iPhone tomorrow. This is the best I found so far. Notice the glue dots...well wax I guess from the wax paper.Quote:

Try taking a Q-Tip & rolling it over the glue dot a couple of times, it should pick up the dot.
I would not be putting lighter fluid on my razor.

Like others have said if its not on the edge who cares and weather or not remocinf it drim rhe face damages it again what diff does it make they are disposable...
Personally I wouldn't waste time cleaning that off, but if you must, refrain from the lighter fluid. Can't be good for your skin, especially if the residue gets into a cut.
Try to remember not to smoke while you shave.
i was wondering the same thing about the wax on the blade. mostly in the case of it being on or very near the edge, which ive found twice now. also. i was wondering why the blade say "do not wipe" on them

Yea, I think it's there to keep the wrapper sealed around the blade. Doesn't bother me that it's there. I drop it in the blade and go about my business. Like somebody else said, I'll bet it melts and comes off as soon as hot water hits it. Although, I must say, I've never actually looked to see if that's true.
I think it would depend on which type of lighter fluid it is. A cursory glance through the internet yields 3 likely main ingredients. Methanol and ethanol, used in fuels and other applications, are typically not corrosive unless there are inorganic salts present. Mineral spirits is a common third ingredient, used pretty much everywhere, including removal of paints and adhesives from steels. However, the particular brand might have additives/contaminates that may yield different results. If you really want, I would recommend Goo Gone, it is safe for metals not so for leather.
If only there were some kind of device into which a razor blade could be inserted. One which would cover up such unsightly things and leave only the working edges of the blade exposed...
