Any Love For Schick Injectors?

I began shaving in about 1959 or '60 and started with a Schick Injector because that's what Dad used. After that I gradually migrated through a couple different models, tried a Gillette DE but didn't like it, then electric for a while and ultimately to the modern multi blade contraptions. Now I have adopted straight razor shaving but somehow have the urge to find a Schick injector of the vintage of my youth (probably a Model J).

There are several available on the Ebay in various stages of repair/condition. I guess I'm just looking for someone to either tell me I'll hate the shave after using a straight or to enable me in yet another purchase that the wife will question.

Edit: Oh, and what about blades?

I used one in that same time period and loved them, but then was lured away by the cartridge blades, from which I escaped only 3 years ago. Have no idea about them now!

Hell yes! I love the injectors. They are excellent shavers as many here will tell you. I don't think you will be disappointed. You can find the common models all over eBay and in antique stores for very reasonable prices. Dirt cheap some might say. Blades are readily available online, and you can even find vintage ones on eBay.

You can do a search on eBay for the blades, new ones are still available and average around a buck a blade. I keep an old Schick Injector for quick shaves, not too bad of a shave but a straight razor has spoiled me. I also have a few Gillette DE's around for quick shaves also.

I think you will find lots of love for the Schicks. I use mine in a rotation of several different razors(SE,DE, and Straights). They are fine shavers. Just watch the pressure. They are so light that it is easy to apply too much pressure without realizing it. You just need enough to keep the razor on your face. I like mine so much I'm looking for a couple of different models to add to my rotation.

Passed on a few back when I was starting out, much to my regret. From memory Geezer had some very nice examples, and spoke well of them.

I used a Schick injector for most of my shaving career. Wore a beard for about 10 years in between. When the grocery store quite selling the blades I settled for the disposables. After a couple years of inertia, I bought a DE/brush and got into wet shaving proper. I don't really miss the Schick...

My first razor was a Schick injector. It is a great razor. I have one now, a gift from a friend. Even after using a straight razor the shave is not bad. I like it a lot more than a DE. The down side is that blades have to be ordered and the places I usually order my other supplies from don't carry them, so it makes the blades pricey, but a big part of that is about where I live. They are nice to have even just for the nostalgia.

The injector is part of my shaving arsenal. Besides the straights I have an old Gillette DE, similar to the one I watched my Dad shave with, the Schick Injector, an old Gem SE, several vintage SE's, a Rolls, the American equivalent the Everite Safety Razor and, for the hell of it, several double blade, triple blade and quatro blade shavers (can't call them razors) a a few disposables(gasp!). They all get randomly rotated through the year based on probably nothing more than whim of the day and state of my psyche.

I have seen "Ted Pella Coated Injector Single Edge Blades" recommended by one of the shaving stores. Thoughts? Are they better than the Schick brand blades?

I also like the Schick injector. I use mine from time to time. You can get blades on Amazon for them as well as EBay. I remember reading somewhere that you can use the Feather blades for them as well. I believe you have to cut them because they're longer than the regular schick blades.

I use mine to keep my sideburns even and level. I use before my straight.

Great razors - I took a yellow Schick Type E to college in my footlocker back in the late 60's. Of course in those days we didn't do much shaving .. Before I left school the carts had started showing up free in the dorm mailboxes so that was all she wrote until 8 or so years ago when I picked back up with traditional shaving. I've tried a bunch of the injectors, the newer models (save the adjustables) aren't aggressive enough for me but the others are super.

Snagged this Model J off the 'bay for a whopping $9.99. It looks like a new razor, not a flaw anywhere. Put a new Ted Pella blade in it and took it for a test drive. Nice. Shaved well and it will be my go-to when I don't have time for the whole straight razor ritual. Since this is a throwback to my first razor I went totally old school, Williams soap and Old Spice after shave. Oh, to be young again...

Sweet! That is one of the models I am looking for. I have an E3 and a G1, and both are lovely. They are inexpensive, but absolutely fantastic razors, IMO.
