I bet Gillette isn't even making the razor, someone else is for them. The Gillette Silver Blue blades are good though and made in Russia iirc.

I love the Silver Blues, but what are the Gillette Platinum blades like Bob? IIRC, I've tried them, but can't recall my experience.

On a different note, the razor looks decidedly like an imitation of some excellent ones that I have, but mine are made of better material than this one seems to be.

Sorry, can't say what the Gillette Platinum are like never having used them. Just glanced at the packaging in the link and thought they were the Silver Blues at first glance. Packaging looks near the same except for the large written Platinum on the box which I completely missed.

The razor head reminds of the Edwin Jager DE head https://www.edwinjagger.co.uk/edwin-...nd-blades.html . Making a replica vintage Gillette handle should not be much of a problem either.

Smart, for Gillette the razor has always been a lost leader. The goal was to sell, more razor blades.

What better way to get shavers to try double edge razors that to give them away for $35?

The TTO (Twist to Open) razors were designed to make changing blades easier, so folks would change blades more often, it worked…

I would not be surprised to see a new TTO or “Fat Boy” come out in the near future that will cut the competition in price and sell more blades.

Gillette makes zillions of blades in third world countries and DEs too where they are very popular so my guess is they are just importing one of those.

Not a bad move by Gillette, at all.

They notice many people going back to DE shaving and doing other hipster things, they might as well cash in on it.

I wonder if they're going to offer more DE blades or make them more readily available and at what cost and quality.

    Neat looking set!

neat looking set, i'd be tempted to get one if i didn't already have a similar one. Not a bad price either. Maybe they will reintroduce a affordable Toggle.

I too thought the base plate looks a little like an E.J.
The price is right. As long as the plating on the head doesn't wear out too quickly from being made cheap.

Although this WILL be controversial Its also smart for gillette to make the razor out of the lower material because the razor Will fail sooner and Will have to be replaced so they can get more money because if its made out of to good of a material all anyone will ever replace is blades. Also since we are all assuming this is not an in house product from gillette then it will be easier for gillette to get the already made parts. I mean yes the head looks similar to some of the replacement heads already available on eb@y (yes deliberately misspelled) for less than 4 dollars from hong kong... I think people will buy this more for collecting than anything since its the first one in decades. And its at least a good sign that they are recognizing the wet shavers out there And its good damage control for gillettes recent snafu's And also a good way to test the waters. If its a hit and sells well great they continue but if not they call it limited and anniversary and holiday release and either dont do it again or only do it for special occasions like christmas, fathers day, or for gillete anniversaries.
