shaving experts please/shaving in the shower

ive used system and disposable multi blade disposable razors from all
brands while in the shower and ive had excellent results!!!!! i mean
excellent results that i LOVE!!! taking a long shower helps my facial
hair soften like easily 80% if not more!!! when i shave against the
grain its just smoooooooth!!!! no irritation whatsoever even when
atg. just lovin it!!!! now heres the problem. i may not always get
the chance to shave while in the shower. i was talking to a friend of
mine who knows this guy who considers himself a shaving expert and
this is what he told him regarding shaving while in the shower and
shaving a couple of minutes after taking a shower at the sink. WHEN
YOU SHAVE WHILE IN THE SHOWER ASSUMING ITS A GOOD LONG SHOWER IS THAT
YOUR FACIAL HAIR IS SATURATED WITH WATER TO THE POINT WHERE ITS MOIST
BY ITSELF AND THATS WHY IT FEELS SO GOOD! IF YOU WAIT A COUPLE OF
MINUTES AFTER SHOWERING AND DO IT AT THE SINK ITS NO LONGER THAT MOIST
YOUR FACIAL HAIR OF COURSE! YOUVE LOST THAT MOISTURE IN YOUR FACIAL
HAIR AT THAT POINT! since he told my friend that, if i wait like
10-15 minutes after taking a long shower and decide to shower at the
sink, how can i make my facial hair that moist like in the shower if
it that point its no longer 80%+ moist/saturated with water? how can
i replicate this assuming it could be done???? can it be done at all
or not???? what products could help me replicate this? proraso????
gillette??? aloe vera??? replicate it exactly like im still in the
shower saturated with water and that moist?? can anyone or someone
please tell me this???? rsvp. thank you.

I have no issue shaving in the shower when using a DE. But i wouldnt think about it with a straight razor. Most of the guys here use a SR. Welcome to SRP by the way.
A quality soap and a scuttle will get your lather warm and shaving right after a shower using plenty of warm water is about as close as your going to get as to being in the steam and water.

So what type of razor are you using?

Do a search in the advanced search box up in the right corner under pre shave prep. there should be some information there. It seems there are different preps that people do (anything from a hot towel to Noxema) i personally haven't tried many of them but the one's i've tried didn't seem to make much of a difference to me. As with anything YMMV

We have discussed shaving in the shower previously. Since most here use a straight that isn't a good idea.

With a DE certainly it can be done but honestly if you be letting the water run a long time you're wasting water and for me living in the desert and having to pay for water that's a non starter.

I'd much rather shave at the sink after a shower. A quality soap is all you need for a great shave. You don't need to steam your face and water alone will never give as comfortable a shave.

Most here would rather just take their time at the sink and have an enjoyable experience and not be rushed in the shower.

Seriously though, hot towels and warm lather from a scuttle accomplishes the same goal. I shave often in the summer with cold water, and feel it is just as good as hot, especially when it’s hot outside.

its just as wet for a bit after the shower too,,, but you do know its just wrong to talk about cartridge razors here, your asking the wrong forum,, cause you aint getting as great a shave as you claim

For many years, I shaved in the shower using a cartridge razor. After retirement, I had time to return to wet shaving. I might consider shaving with a DE in the shower, but never with a straight razor. Sometimes the shower floor can get slippery from shampoo and conditioner. If you were to slip while holding a straight razor against your throat, you might not survive the incident.

I believe it was Geezer who commented "never shave with a straight razor while naked".

Personally, I like showering before I shave to make sure my beard is clean and hydrated. I keep my beard hydrated throughout the shave using great shaving soaps that have been lathered with the right amount of water. Thus, I don't need to stay in the shower to keep my face moist. If the soap alone is not enough for you, there are other preshave products and techniques that will work. After all, professional barbers learned to shave their customers without joining them in a communal shower.
