Flat bottom English Tech, in gold?

Does anyone have one of these razors in a Gold finish? I do really enjoy my English FB Tech. And was thinking of sending it out for replating in gold, but I'm a little Leary. If this razor was never played in gold as an option...

So does anyone have one?

I know some of you have collections that include out of the ordinary vintage safety razors as I do. So come out of the closet ( he, he) and let me know if you got one. If not, at least tell me what other vintage out of the ordinary razors you do have. Pics would be nice too.

I don’t have a lot of DE razors. I do have this Aristocrat in gold. If memory serves me correctly it is from 1966. I presume you were talking about a three piece design. I actually have more injectors than DE razors.

Just these three, for the most used. Which is a rarity. Just bought and cleaned up the one in the middle, yesterday.

I'm not big on DE's. But its good to know how to use one, for there will come a time when we've become injured, or had surgeries, that incapacitated our dominate shave hand/arm, where wielding a straight is no longer safe. Or just plain ol gettin too old. :rofl2: It happens..!! And I'm happy I can always drop back to a DE when need be, but I'll always be straight....to the end.

Shaun, You have an Aristocrat Slim in gold. I think the last year they were made was 1967. They don't come up very often. A rare Gillette for sure.

Mike, that Fatboy turned out great for the shape it was in. And having the 1940's Original Super Speed is a great razor. Depending on if it has the knotched centerbar or pre-knotched will date it.

A good start in showing off some Safety Razors. As Mike said, When things go bad, it's nice to have something else to fall back on and still have a nice shave. I used my safety razors for 10 to 12 months when my hand was too iffy to hold a Straight. I was sure happy I had them.

Here is a Gillette Milord.
I think they only came in Gold Plating. This one is from 1947 I believe...

The Milords I believe were the same razors as the nickel plated Superspeeds of those same years just coated in gold .. I've found them to shave about the same anyway.

No notch in this superspeed from what I see, Jerry.

The notch is that spot on the side of the center bar. It was made so you can hook the blade with the notch then it would drop down in place. I will show an un notched razor later.

Here are two Original Superspeeds. Also called the 1940s Superspeed. Identified by the fine knurling on the entire length of the handle and having side plates. In late 1946 they made the first ones and continued through the middle of 1947 making them without the notch. In the late part of 1947, they started making them with a notch on the center bar. And in 1950 they started using the date code. These were made from 1946 through 1954 or 55.

Here you can see one of the first models made with no date code and no notch...

This second one I have has the notch on the center bar. Also has a date code of X3. Meaning it was made in the third quarter of 1952...

So with this info, we can narrow down the model and year a 1940's Original Super Speed was made.
The model that was made before the First Superspeed was called the Ranger Tech. But it was not a Tech as we all know. Later the Tech was made with 3 pieces. The Ranger Tech is a one-piece TTO razor like the Superspeed.

Since this thread (And I) have wandered off in a new direction...I will start a new DE thread. We will see if anyone else has any safety razors they want to show. Remember as Outback said, We all should own one or two for when the day comes you cant safely hold your straight or because of medical issues. We are all getting older so think ahead.

I will also start posting pictures of others in my collection and answer any questions.

Im only a baby at 60 but have 3, rockwell 6c, a weishi in a plastic case with a mirror and a Parker open comb

The Rockwell is good, i use a number 6 and the open comb is good
The Weishi is not fierce or adjustable so its more for if you shave every day.

I don't use them too often, mostly if I'm really pushed for time.
They are no quicker to shave with really but don't need stropping.

I use Nacets in all of them.

I too have the Rockwell and enjoy the 6 plate. And my favorite blade is the Nacet. Great minds think alike.
It's good that you have something. As things happen and it's best if you already know what you enjoy in the way of Safety Razors for those times.

The Rockwell.
For those who don't know, you have three different bottom plates you can choose from. Each one is double-sided. This allows you to have 6 different razors in one. From extremely Mild (#1) to a nice mid-level aggressive shave (#6). It comes in fancy metals too if you want to pay extra. I think my set in Stainless Steel was about 100 bucks if memory serves me right. It comes with there own Blades too. But I'm not a fan of the blades.
