Default Lets see what Safety razors you have.

As was said in the other thread, a Safety Razor is something we should all have in our collection for when the time comes for medical reasons or just getting too old to handle our Straight Razors safely. I will always enjoy using a Straight Razor, but I have a good-sized collection of Safety Razors too. I've wanted to be able to use all types of razors consistently. Being able to switch between each and every razor in my collection.

So post up some pics of "any" Safety Razor you own. Tell us about it. Or ask questions you might have about it. I will post some pics starting at my earliest and try to work my way up through the years. Not only do I have Vintage Gillettes but I have Gem Razors and Schick Razors. Then a bunch of the newer razors made today.

So let's see what you have. This Sub-Forum has gone a little stagnant so I just want to bring it back alive. And maybe we might get a few newer members who haven't graduated to the Straight and still use a Safety Razor.

So I guess I will start with Two Gem razors. These use the SE blade that looks like what you would use to scrape a sticker off of Glass. But the blades you actually use are different.

The 1912 Gem. These were made for a few years so I'd say mine could be 1919 or 1924. At least that is the best I've been able to figure out. If you know better please speak up. These are not the Damaskeene that were made before these. I don't own one yet. The fist one is Silver plated and the second is Brass. It may have been plated at one time. I've always loved the design on the handles.

Keep in mind that all of my razors are user-grade. I don't have a single razor in my collection that I don't/wont use.

So let's see what you have.

This next one is the First Schick razor. This was before the Injector which was called the Repeater. Made by the Magazine Repeater Razor Company. The handle had a cartridge of blades in it and you would pull the handle end back and then push it forward. A new blade would push out the old blade and push in a new blade. Just like the injector except the blades were in the handle. Then you would rotate the head and have your shave. When done, Rince and turn head back in line with the handle and cap it. This was the first. The "A" Model was made in 1926 - 1927 I believe.

This is my favorite safety razor. It works but doesn't shave worth a darn.

No idea what that is, Tim. Is it one of those electrics made for the head?

I got 6 in total. Though I don't use the Valet, Autostrop.

The left one in the second pic, is the newest.
Its part of a kit that I got for my father, when I was in grade school. Each year we had a Santa's workshop set up in school, where kids could pick out gifts for their parents. Of course the teachers wouldn't let me have it till the end of the school day. That will never happen in today's society.

I have too many Safeties, but maybe the earliest type is those originally designed for reusable wedge blades - like this Henckel's Rapide .. though I've only used it with a modern GEM SE blade ..

You did say "Safety Razor", so there's these two. A Curley, and a Universal, by Landers Frary & Clark.
