    Labhoncho,

Sorry I just saw your post. Do you use the Rolls frequently? Can you give any advice on keeping them in working order?

There are quite extensive instructions on Badger and blade. I have a few Rolls but have not been able to get one sharp enough to shave without pulling. TrisD has sharped blades for me and they were better than my efforts but still not totally comfortable. Certainly if they work for you they shave great.

Hi Ian?, Are you using a very steep angle when you shave, I find them very easy to shave with!

I have been using the blade with the back close to my face as the instructions suggest. Are you suggesting I raise the back of the blade?

Hiya, I use mine at about the same angle as I use a straight razor.
I have to admit, you can't get the Rolls blade as sharp as a very sharp straight razor, well not by using just the case hone and strop anyway, but you should be able to get a reasonable shave off one!

    Default New Rolls Razor

I am new to this forum, and this post caught my eye.

My father-in-law just gave me a Viscount Rolls razor that was NEVER used. Someone gave it to him in the late 50's as a gift and he has been holding it ever since.

I had my first shave with it today and I found it very easy to use. I am new to classic shaving so this is a nice way for me to have a quick shave without using my modern 5-blade razor -- which I have grown to hate.

Mine is in perfect condition with blade that looks new.

How good is the barber hone on the rolls? Could I use it for straights, without picking it out of the metal case?

The hone & Stop on a Rolls razor is inset in a metal frame that where the edge is higher than the surface. It is really not useful for anything other than caring for the Rolls.
