yeah the fact that your using blades that are of the same sharpness that are used in disposable blade straight razors.

so when i would snap a merkur blade in half and toss it in the straight razor it gave me a super close shave. so i figured with the adjustable safety razor you could make it so that way the blade gets extra close to the face compared to non adjustable.

I am not entirely sure we are talking about anything that has to do with straight razors. You seem to be referring to a Shavette like razor. This has nothing to do with a straight razor, other than its not-very-close visual semblance.

You should be able to find lots of information about the various Dovo adjustables over that other forum.

I've moved this thread to the Double Edge and Single Edge Shaving, as it is more appropriate for the topic.

If I understand correctly, OutlawSkinnyD is using a shavette-type razor with a snapped-in-half DE blade. I can't provide feedback about adjustable double edge razors -- I don't have any, they've moved on to other beginners.

That being said, the Merkur HD (non-adjustable) gives me a good shave. It tackles some parts of my face better than a straight -- mainly my neck, simply because I can't get the attack angle I need with a straight. However, a straight blows the DE away on my chin & cheeks... it isn't really a comparison.

I've never experienced ingrowns as a result of DE shaving. As for stubble softness... well, your mileage may vary.
