Currently my only double edge, the new Feather "All Stainless" is miles ahead of everything else I've ever owned or tried through the years.

    Default GEM BLADES

Reading the post, I see some use GEM razors. I recently came across a GEM razor in like new condition. Where do you get blades for these razors?

I love the merkur hd, gilette bostonian, gilette tech, krona, i went through a bad rad with de razors, bought all the well known razors, fatboy/slim/aristocrats etc, but find the easily bought/cheaper razors just as good once you learn how to de shave correctly.

I think, hope someone from your side of the pond will step in, that you can get them quite easy in the states, wallmart etc, also they are online at a lot of us shaving sites, here in the uk its a bit harder though, and only 1 online vendor i know who sells them, i think personna and ted pella are available in the states.
ps, i have a gem and its a good razor.

    Default My 3 kids and my 3 razors ... I can't pic a favorite

I started with a Gillette tech travel with an aluminum handle still travel with it. Acquired a 1902 brass Gillette with tech more for looks it's too aggressive and last week I got a my Merkur 38C in the mail so it's still the honeymoon (want to play with it too much but still finding a rhythm).
I've never used anything but the drugstore (persona platinum?) blades. At $1.50-$3.00 HOW CAN I LOOSE!?!?
I buy a package of blades every time I shop so they keep stocking them and I have a supply should they stop or I move to where they are hard to come by.
I've had them confiscated by TSA several times but at >$3 who cares. It gives me a chance to tell the story and get more people in to classic shaving.

A Schkick Krona loaded with Astra/Derby blade works very well for me.

A lone Merkur 34c HD...I'm still trying to find a blade that I'm happy with as nothing is comparing to the comfort or closeness of my straights.

    Hi,

For me, the best shaving safety razors are (in order):

    1) GEM/Ever-Ready 1912 (I use 'GEM' PTFE coated blades)
    2) Schick E2 ( I use Personna Injector blades)
    3) English Gillette New #77/88 (long, open comb) (Used with a Feather or Iridium Super)

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

I did not like my Merkur 23c so I tried an 11c and loved it then I aquired a British made gillette flare tip rocket. And now the 11c got left on the shelf. Now I have a shavette while I wait for my straights to come back from restoration and the rocket feels mild so a Merkur Futur is now in the line up but the rocket is still needed when time is short. so it boils down to this

A Flare tip rocket for when I have not time because it shaves like a rocket.

A Futur when I want it close.

But when I have a day off and nothing to do it'll be straights all the way.

Very difficult, like different cars. Some very good razors: Eclipse Red Ring, Mergress, Long handled Super Adjustable, EJ DE89L, Toggle.
