I beg to differ that DE shaving is not really shaving... if you lather, hot towel, lather, use a badger brush, soaps etc... spending the time to enjoy the shave, how is this not shaving?... thats like saying if you don't use a dubl duck or don't use Derby blades in your DE it isn't really shaving... such an elitist attitude...pppffffff

Err... I think you may have missed something in Holli's post.

He says that one quick WTG pass with water using a DE is not really shaving, not that using a DE full stop is not really shaving. And if thats all he uses a DE for, fair enough.

I agree with him that a quick WTG pass with water is not a proper shave, its just grooming. No one has said that using a DE isnt a proper shave.

How about you read the post before you start calling people elitist?

l got an EJ Georgian gold plated with a Merkur head that is my favourite de shaver, the handle and balance are perfect for when my arthritis is too bad to use a straight, it gives bbs and 100% nick free shaves regardless of blade but it seems to prefer Derby's.

Merkur came out with a red and blue version of it this year and while tempted to buy on it just looks too much like something that belongs in another room not the bathroom.

My other favourite DE is one of the few possessions I got from my father before he passed away last December his Gillette Slim, coincidentally I also have his Fathers razor my father gave me years ago it was his Fathers Shumate straight razor which is the only material possession anyone has of his and it is also the razor that started me on this expensive hobby.

I tend to keep the dust off of my DE's once and a while also. I like my Gillette Aristrocrat the best. I have 2 other WW1 issue DE's but one of them is finicky with the angles, and the other one's blade is not set on ridges like the Gillette. If I don't set the blade in just right, it's very easy to cause a nick.

Other than my straights, the only razor I own is my Grandfather's Gillette adjsutable slim which I like cause it was his (and cause James Bond used one (in Goldfinger?)). Like the straights alot better tho...

They're next off the blocks to try mate. Working through a sample pack by the recommended order of blades. I've just got onto the Treets today and next week it will be a Feather. I've not liked the Merkurs or the Derbys. They'd do if nothing was available, but Astra and Treets are far better on my face. I'm looking forward to the Feathers, having heard that they are almost like the holy grail of DE blades. So far I could happily buy Astra in a bulk pack.

I like my black tip SS for a milder shave, fat boy and super for a heavier adjustable feel, I have a user grade President for a classy heavy feel with moderate action, and I like the sheraton for the open comb experience.
