Anyone tried one on their DE? or Single edge?
From a Kyocera FAQ (couldn't find it on the actual Kyocera website):
Kyocera Ceramic Knife F.A Q's
"Too dangerous! A metal razor blade has a relatively "rounded" edge (under the microscope) which prevents the blade from cutting into the skin. A ceramic razor blade, however, does not have a rounded edge and slices into the skin. Thus, a ceramic shaver would be too dangerous to use. Several engineers in Sendai who tested prototypes can confirm this painful fact!"
As someone who graduated from a ceramic engineering program, I fully agree. There's razor sharp, and there's ceramic sharp. I'm sure there are some guys here who could safely handle a ceramic razor, but there'd be plenty who'd slice themselves but good.
Course, who knows if those Sendai guys knew what they were doing :p
You would simply use less pressure against the skin with the ceramic. If anything, it should be safer if properly used. There are diamond blades with edges only a single atom thick and they are reported to shave just fine. As long as you don't use pressure.
Since I recentlty actually tried using my ceramic razor, I can say that the Sendai guys definitely didn't know how to use a straight.
The problem I had/have is to achieve an unchipped edge while honing without having to resort to a shallow edge bevel.
With the edge bevel the way it is now, the razor feels fine against my skin, but doesn't cleave the whiskers effectively.

so does this thing just scare the hair off of your face?
Holy crap that's cool!
Seraphim is super duper
so I came across a "straight" that takes slotted DE blades
Thinking about trying to get ahold of a package of these

Give it a try!
I'd been pondering that route for a long time, but never pulled the trigger.
Maybe you should email them and ask what the bevel angle is they put on the cutting edge? A knife edge bevel will be great for cutting stuff, but lousey at shaving whiskers...
