Default Anyone still shave with DE on a regular basis?

When i started down this straight razor path* my plan was to use my DE during the week and only use the straight when i had plenty of time on the weekend.

Well.. For some reason the move from DE to straight has been a lot easier than i thought. I get a shave just as close as my DE with less passes and zero irritation.

I'm not getting BBS(no ATG yet), but i am actually getting closer shaves on some of the areas i had issues with on the DE(Jawline especially). Only area not closer is neck, because i have not gotten brave enough for ATG yet.

But yeah... it takes me between 20-30 minutes to shave with the straight doing 1 atg, 1 xtg, 1xtg the other direction on jawline/neck.

I have been wondering if i will ever shave with the DE again for a reason other than boredom or maybe it is better for travel?

    * i have been using the straight for less than a week

Sounds like you're off to one hell of a start there!
I had the same idea. Straight for the weekends, so to speak! It was just too enjoyable though, & i wanted all the practise i could get. I'll very occasionally pick up the DE & i use it if i'm abroad, but that's about it. Shame really as my last aquisition before i went straight was a Merkur Futur. It was a gift from my Mother & stepfather & i like it very much!

I still use my DE for small clean up especially my lower lip area. Just haven't been able to get really close with the str8 in that area. I too take the DE when I travel. I must admit tho that I will have a couple DEs to sell soon as 4 is way more than I need. Of course my 5 str8s are probably more than I need also.

I just sold off my DE last week. It had been travelling with me in my dopp kit, "as a backup", but it never got called on for active duty.

Hadn't used it since July, so I figured some other guy could enjoy it. It was a Merkur Futur, and it was sweet. Fair thee well, good razor!

I shave both my head and my face. I use the DE for my head and the third pass on my neck. Straight for the first and second pass on my face. This combo gives me what I feel is the perfect shave. Truthfully, I think you can get just as good a shave with good DE but I enjoy the straight shave experience while I have coffee and watch the news in the morning. DE is better for low hassle travel.

DE use is now restricted to travel on the occasions when I can't find an excuse to check my bags.
Also once in a while when I slack on my honing and my straights aren't sharp enough.-Sean
