My wife thought I was being silly when I came home today all giddy and showed her what I got for $10... until I pulled up some completed auctions on Ebay and showed her what they go for.

Nice! Looks unused, or really well cared for.
Excellent find! I love hearing these stories and seeing the pics of a total score! :nj
Very nice score!
Even the shipper and instructions. Man, you scored the winning touchdown with that find. It would have been good at 10X the price you paid if the razor itself is in near mint condition.
I am sure glad to hear someone struck gold.Been awful dry around here in California.Even nice str8s are becoming scarce.Congrats on such an awsome find.:tu
Outstanding find!
Pickins are slim here too. I think everyone left them up North before coming to FL. :D
Maybe I need to start checking out some local flea markets, then. The ones I remember going to always seemed to have the cheap Chinese knockoff stuff, nothing of any real value. Awesome find!
What part of PA?
I'm from western PA.
You could throw that into the classifieds or on ebay and make a bundle off of it but it is IMHO one of the finest DEs Gillette ever made. That is if you still shave with a contraption instead of the pure clean naked blade. :D
I'm considering it. I haven't seen any available with a good condition cardboard shipping box, so I'm not sure what it's actually worth.
I actually just got my strop in the mail today, already had my first straight shave with an antique store find that I did on a DMT 8EE and stropped on a leather belt. :) I figure if I survived that, I'll probably have an easier time when my shave-ready gets here and my 12k chinese stone.
I found a few more DE's over the last few weeks... I was using a Merkur HD before, but a Gillette Red Tip seems to give me a great shave for the DE days.
I don't NEED a limousine razor, other than bragging rights. And I don't want to use this one and risk usage marks.
I bought my Merkur over a year ago, but I've only been looking around flea markets/antique shops for a couple weeks.
If it is as NIB as it looks I would throw it in the closet and forget I had it for awhile. I have a few Gillettes like that . I may never shave with them again but if I ever want to it is nice to know they are there. You could shave with that and with care it would last many years before it showed any usage. IMHO.
that's great! i keep looking anytime i'm in a likely spot for an old razor, but i have yet to find anything nearly that clean.
I picked up a President with the shipping box like yours just before Christmas. It cost a bit more but still well below auction prices. Also came with the original paper price sleeve of $5.00 wrapped around the handle, unopened blades in the plastic wrapper and the paper tab that said to remove tab and place blades here. Instructions also. I would dare say it's unused.
We were in a antique mall a little ways from here and looking for Schicks, actually. The nice lady working there found me and said that she had found an old razor, but wasn't sure if I'd be interested since it used one of those razor blades that cut on both sides.
I told her that I'd look at since she took the trouble to look for it. We came around a corner to a really well lit curio cabinet. Low and behold!! OMG!!!
Oh sh!@!! I've read about one of these!! And look at all it's got!! Of course all this went through my head and not my mouth. For once I wasn't thinking out loud.
I called over the GF and showed her, explaining the rarity and value. then I walked around another half hour or so debating it and finally bought it.
It's been in my closet ever since. I hate to use it. the two small end tabs on one end of the box are off, but still with the box, tucked away.
I've really been thinking of selling it on the bay. Someone with a much more extensive collection may be looking for one. I'll probably never use it or have a great collection.
Oh well, we'll see.
Glad to know you found one at such a great price. Antiquing can be habit forming. It certainly is fun.
