I'll go buy anything DE but what should I get? I have nothing to compair it with. Can I ask you to put in your favorite DE and take the results to buy the most favorable one? Thanks in advance.

I had a Merkrur 38C before I started straight shaving, it's really well built and a quality razor.
I love my Merkur HD...nice and hefty...
I have the Merkur Futur and the Progressive. Both work very well. I prefer the heft of the Futur. I'll NEVER go back to the Mach 3 blade again. These shave much much better. I only use the Mach 3 to shave my upper lip just under the nose. The sled works best for that tight spot. Otherwise - the DE Merkurs are tops!!
Gillette Fatboy. it works great and is adjustable. great weight to it also.
Weening myself off a Gillette 50's SuperSpeed. It's a really nice razor, I suppose they all are once you dial them in. In the middle on the aggressiveness scale.
Before going to the straight I used the Merkur HD and the HD slant. The regular is more forgiving, but the slant is more aggressive. Between the two I would recomment the Merkur HD, overall good safety razor.
Merkur HD or 38C. The 38C is heavier and has a longer handle. Both are great DE shavers.
I used as Fatboy for many years. The adjustability is nice to have sometimes. I'd go Merkur, before paying some of the latest Eboy prices for one.
I really like my Merkur HD, simple hefty razor.
I used a Merkur Futur for a short while before using a straight. Did a perfect job for me. I would be tempted to try a Merkur HD if I wanted to use a DE often, or even a ... Vision 2000!
Good advice I read about using adjustables is to use the least aggressive setting that gives a good shave, not the most aggressive setting you can tolerate!
On the Vision I think the "V" is the least aggressive setting, so start there and work your way through i/s/i/o/n only if necessary.
And maybe try different branded blades before trying a new DE razor?
I get excellent shaves from my 1974 Gillette Super Speed. I started shaving with a DE as a teen so I'm really comfortable with them, just pick it up and whip out a good close shave while drinking coffee at the same time. DE's feel right. Don't know why I ever went to a twin or the Fusion.

Gillette Fatboy, This is still my go to razor when I get up late and have to shave fast.... 9 on Mondays after not shaving all weekend or 5-7 normally depending on the sharpness of the blade
I use the Gillette Fatboy, Gillette Red tip Superspeed, Gillette Slim Adjustable and Merkur HD. I lke them all. If I were buying something today it would be the Merkur HD or if I wanted to get real fancy I would get a Jagger Chatsworth (fancy handle with a Merkur head).
My favourite DE is similar to my favourite straight - it's the one that I'm using at any given time. However, my most used, in no particular order: Merkur HD (this was my first DE), no date (late 40s) ball end Tech, and a 60s flare tip Rocket.
cheers,
Rick
1963 Gillette adjustable, find this or something similar on eBay.
The best DE I have ever used is a GIllette 1926 NEW improved open comb. That thing gives me super BBS. Sometimes I go to bed still feeling BBS after working all day! I own about 6 different Gillettes, including adjustables (fat boy, slim, etc) the NEW makes them look like child' play.
The Merkur HD is nice. You can pickup a Gillette DE off eBay & clean it up and have a great shaver too.
"Mergress" Adjustabel (see Lee's Safety Razors), or HD Slant.
I have a handful of Gillette Superspeeds of various vintages,
and they're all slightly different (but great) shavers. I'm not
a big fan of the Tech or other 3 piece razors, but the Merkur
HD and Slant are good as well.

i had the merkur futur and vision, slod them both too agresive. i use a merkur hd as my go to razor, then fatboy, next is 58 superpeed,68 slim adjustable, 58 tech, but out of all the merkur hd doess it for me
merkur hd is no brainer choice just to get back on shave groove
Merkur HD or Gillette Red Tip. Best shaves from both of those razors. I prefer the HD.
I switch between a Gillette slim and a Merkur barberpole slant. I use the slims on mornings when I'm in a rush (or hungover) and when I have time to slow down for a very close shave I use the slant.
+1 on trying different blades, if you haven't done so already.
