Some rather old DE blades?

Picked up this nice little blade case the other day, possibly paid too much for it, but I like it and it wanted to use it. doesn't quite fit all the brands as some are wrapped wider than others, but take a look at what was in it! I have 8 of these little beauts, no idea if they have any value at all, but they sure look good!

Interesting photos of the first DE razor blades and razor blade safe for disposal of same. The shape as well as the message on the blade is worth noting. "No stropping." No honing." Must have been a real selling point when the DE was attempting to establish a foothold in the wet shaving market.

BTW...Good luck with your restoration of that vintage DE Gillette razor.

Been awhile since I looked at the Krumholz book but in the first few years of their manufacturing one of the services Gillette offered was that you could send the blades back and have them re-sharpened.

It doesn't show up well in the pic, but there are all kinds of crazy grind marks on blade, and they look like they go in a couple directions, but the edges are so smooth looking its amazing, better even than a new BIC DE blade.

A few years ago I bought a Gillette old type (pre-1920) with a few NOS blades still in the wrapper. I took one out and shaved with it. It had no visible corrosion but I'm sure it wasn't as fresh all those years later as it would have been when new. It shaved but not very comfortably. About the way I remember the old Gillette blue blades feeling.
