Default How does an open comb work?

    Hello,

I was wondering if anybody had some pictures on how a blade is held in place by an open comb safety razor. Just curious how it fits together and how it's held in place.

    Thank you,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. The cap piece holds the blade in place and exerts the downward pressure, once screwed into place into the handle, to put the slight downward curve into the blade above/over the comb piece.

So instead of the blade being spaced above a groved "bar" the blade is spaced above a slotted comb. Is this correct? I was somehow under the impression that the blade was below the comb but then I couldn't understand how it it held in place.

Is an open comb really any different? Seems like it would be exactly the same. My 39c Slant seems more "open" than an open comb razor.

I'm actually looking for the best DE for head shaving. So I was trying to find the most open razor that would not get clogged with hair. I know a straight is all the way open but I don't think I am ready to try that any time soon.

    Thank you,

Open combs are usually thought to be more aggressive than straight bars or closed combs.

And the slant bar is the most aggressive, as it's design is even more open and adds a twist/flexes the blade at an angle, that gives the edge a slicing action rather than a chopping action.

So instead of the blade being spaced above a groved "bar" the blade is spaced above a slotted comb. Is this correct?
    Yes this is correct.
