    Default FIRST "DE" SHAVE....

Well, just got done with my first DE shave and all I got to say is "SWEET"! I got a 1959 Gillette Fatboy off ebay and used that with a Feather blade. Very impressive shave, I must say! I had a few weepers and I nicked the old Adams Apple slightly, but that can be chalked up to inexperience with the razor. It's not a Straight shave, but very close! My best way of checking is how much, if any growth is back later on in the day. These razors and Straight razors are the ONLY way to shave! Why do people even waste their time with the new razors? Guess the advertisers have brainwashed the populace on how superior the multi blade razors are (yeah right!) It just keeps getting better every day! Thanks to all for all the advice and help with straight razors and DE razors. This is truly a great Brotherhood to belong too! God Bless All and Happy New Year!

I just got the same razor yesterday, 1959 Fatboy E4. Looking forward to trying it out. Healthy New Year to you as well.

    Hello, rrp1501:

Well done, sir. Congratulations. That is a good razor and an excellent reminder of American quality workmanship. You're on your way.

I used an old fatboy for a few years and yep it's a quality razor alright. It will wet your appetite to try some others.

Congrats! More proof that a single blade, no matter what form beats those expensive multi blade things

You sure dove in head first with the Feather blades, usually guys will start off with a milder blade. Oh well, at least your SR skills seemed to pay off with a good first DE shave. Congrats!

Don't be afraid to dial down your razor if you are getting too many weepers. That's the beauty of the Fat Boy

I agree. Having gone to a Merkur long handled classic, when I travel and use the old Sensor, yuck! The new-fangled shave sucks compared to the DE razor. Oh, and the canned goo also... double yuck!

Why people pay those outrageous prices for those things baffles me!

Hey thanks for the info! I wasn't sure what to set the dial at so I set it at 6. I'll drop it down to a 3 or 2 and see how it goes. I just wish I would have tried this sooner because I'm going to Israel on a mission trip soon and I went and bought a fusion razor because I didn't want the hassles of traveling international with a straight razor with the possibility of it vanishing from my luggage mysteriously. I felt like I had to hide that razor on the way to the checkout like I was going to get arrested by the straight razor police for even looking at one of those pieces of junk! I think I'll give it to my nephew, the fusion that is.

6 is a good setting, usually provides a comfortable shave, even with a Feather which can be a bit dodgy on the higher settings.

I don't want to scare you away from experimenting with the higher settings. You may just want to "stay low" for the first few shaves while you get the hang of it. Another idea (when new to DE's) is to pick a setting, like 4 or 5, and stick with it like it like your razor is non-adjustable.

    Have fun,

    Ryan
