Thread: Blades for Gem

I hope I hit the right forum! I have never shaved with a Gillette DE, (Straights only) but know the safety razor day will come! I have talked to lots of older gentlemen and LOTS have an affinity for their old GEMS and similar types. I think I could be one too as I have several of them. I wonder if anyone has knowledge of the best blades? Also, Is there a way to adapt gillette blades to a Gem? Many Thanks, Tom

For me, the best shaving blades I use with my GEM/Ever-Ready razors are the GEM PTFE Coated stainless; stunning shaves !

The only problem with ordering the blades from Ted Pella is that you have to order at least 200 blades and someone has to be available to sign for them. If you have them sent to work, this should not be an issue.

I would not advise you to try to modify a DE blade for use in an SE, the blades are way too thin and will make you bleed, a lot, as the SE provides very little blade stabilization, if you do try it you will bleed, don't ask how I found this out.

I Use DE blades and single edge utility blades for crafts and you are very correct! Some wild sleeve would have to be utilized! Waaay too thin! I shall benefit from your experience! THANKS!! I would like to buy some good blades, but 200? I would wind up using them for crafts! Depends on the price, I guess. I will check it out. Thanks everyone for the advise!
