I was a die hard St8 shaver for years..I have about 50 razors. I tried a DE and love it! I have tried a couple out there...Super speed, Tech, Merkur..Gillette New....But, the best hands down is the Fat boy!

I have an Edwin Jagger 89 chrome, lined. I feel it is a beautiful safety razor, nice weight, solid build and handle grips well when wet.
Another vote for the Edwin Jagger here, BTW they all have the same head the difference between the models is the handle, my 2nd vote would go to a vintage Gillette Slim Adjustable.
Does that hold true for the new http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...er-89ba11.html?
+1
The EJ is a 97% while the Merkur I would
rate at 95%. Both shave very well.
I would note that the best blade in one is not the
same as the best blade in the other so get a
nice sample of blades no mater which you
select.
My Merkur was available locally (no shipping and handling).
My EJ started out less expensive but then I saw
this French soap I just had to have and a couple
of pucks of a favorite.... to keep the mug full.
Now what else might be in the 97-100% range... I have not found
it. Just leaving room on the score sheet.
merkur futur all the way
Edwin Jagger or Mühle, they have the same head and both are efficient and comfortable.
Merkur slant for heavy beards is unrivaled
The Merkur 38C takes the gold medal on the podium, I have the Merkur 34C-HD and like all razors with that length handle and they are numerous, in all makes, I personally would say they are to short and until you use a razor with a longer handle you have nothing to compare it, if you are really serious about DE shaving then get what I think is the best DE razor in the world, the Feather AS-D1, expensive but worth every penny.
