Gentlemen:
Have you tried the Goodfella double edge razor? From what I can see, it's a slick razor and beautifully made. I have heard it to be a considerably mild razor. I am curious to know your thoughts on the Goodfella. Thanks.

Obie

This is always how it starts with you, Obie, so that means the DEAD (DE Aquisition Disorder) must be back. I look forward to your review an a few weeks...... :w :D
hahaha.....
ok.. i've regrouped from my laughter..
i too am interested in the goodfella razor.. from my understanding.. it's very well made and quite handsome..
however.. it's an extremely mild open comb razor.. two things i have no interest in.
Hello Ryan:
How right you are, my good friend. Beauty catches my eye and often doesn't let go. I've eyed the Goodfella for a while and my curiosity about it seems to grow daily. It's a good looking razor. That it is known to be an extremely mild razor makes me hesitate. Then again, every razor comes with certain characteristics that have learning and adjustment curves. I know I had it with the Pils and the Feather. In the end my curiosity might fade away, or I may end up clicking on the "BUY" button.
Regards,
Obie
don't do it obie.. it does catch my eye as well. i just don't see it being a razor you'd like in the end.. it's open comb.. it's very mild..
my vote goes towards picking up a handsome schick injector.. many very nice ones can be found in new condition at Razor Emporium | A gentleman’s source for his vintage shaving needs.
Victor, my good man, I'm with you on this one. The more I think about it the less likelihood I will like the Goodfella for the reasons you note. Tonight I took stock of my modest double edge razor collection and there are some other razors I prefer to add to it instead of the Goodfella. Here is my little collection:
Feather stainless
Edwin Jagger "Chatsworth" barley, lined
Edwin Jagger 89L
Muhle 89R
Merkur 38C "barber pole"
Mergress
(3) Gillette 1950s superspeed
(2) Gillette thick handle Techs
Weck (open comb)
Gillette Fatboy (I'd like to have another one in the fat handle version)
Gillette Goodwill open comb
I had several Gillette superspeeds — Red Tip, slims, etc. — which I gave up a while back and I wish I had not.
Anyway, the new additions to my little collection will probably be all Gillettes.
So no, for now I'll put the Goodfella out of mind.
Regards,
Obie
That's a real shame, as the Goodfella is a fine razor. I own one and just love it - they are a well built and well balanced razor. The shave is mild, but you can always get closer by loosening the handle just a tiny bit.

Handsome, it most certainly is. Kiwi built too, so you know it's good :D
That is a very fine looking razor indeed. Of course, if it is known to be mild you could always up the aggression by using a very sharp blade like a Feather....
Who are you trying to kid Obie? Put it out of your mind? You may want to but you can't any more than a cow can stop mooing. It will eat at you until you just can't help yourself. Then in an effort rid yourself of the compulsion you will start to drink excessively and do drugs. So do yourself a favor and spare yourself the agony and torture and just buy it now. You won't like it on skid row.
Thebigspendur, my goodman, how well you know me by now. You and Ryan both. Victor, too. I have an obsession with beautiful things. In this case it's the Goodfella. It's a lovely razor. I was obsessed with the Edwin Jagger "Chatsworth" barley (lined) and had to have it — and it's gorgeous. The same thing with the stainless steel Feather — what a beautiful razor.
The PILS was a big obsession, too, and what a stunning razor that turned out to be. Unfortunately the razor's weight and slim handle defeated my banged up hands. I finally gave up the PILS and it went to a deserving friend. The Edwin Jagger 89L and the Muhle 89R are beautiful razors and I have them. I love some of the old Gillettes for their simple beauty, and they are beginning to grow on me as shavers.
Now comes the Goodfella, a beautiful razor and my newest obsession. I might even begin to like the open comb — lately I have been using my two open comb vintage razors more than usual. So which will it be in the coming days, Goodfella or not? Last night I was against it, and this morning for it. Tonight I'll see where I end up after a couple snifters of cognac. Oy!
Regards,
Obie
Obie,
A few weeks ago, after a restless night followed by a very early morning, I sliced my cheek open with my Genco Easy Aces spike point razor. For the next two days, I had to put up with people telling me that I had what appeared to be sharpie marker ink on my face, as the wound was almost black as it healed. That day, I ordered a Goodfella DE from WCS for those mornings when I just don't have time to really concentrate on shaving.
I have to tell you, while I'm a DE novice, I have been very impressed with the performance of this razor. I use Feather blades, and have been very satisfied with the shaves I've gotten from it. When I first opened the package (a very nice box, I might add), I was surprised by how small the Goodfella actually is, but one can tell right away that it's a very high quality product. The lifetime guarantee is quite a nice touch as well.
Just in case you were still on the fence about it...
Best,
The Goodfella is my Go-To DE razor. I just love it!
Nicely weighted and made in NZ so you know you have quality. I have just send a couple of Goodfella's into FHM magazine Australia for an upcomming article "the great shave debate" to battle off against schick/gillette cartridge systems.
It is suited for new and experienced shavers alike, though not for seriously heavy beards or guys with giant hands, there are more suitable DE's for you then but for most of us it is a great DE razor.
Sam
I will somehow get the electronic page posted on here somewhere when the issue comes out (Aug Issue).
Sam
