Dear Obie,
On my own?
Double Edge: Rolls Razor Imperial No.2 (well it's actually a single edge with guard, but never mind).
Blades: Included part of razor, as are leather strop and barber hone in the lid!
Brush: Wilkinson hogbristle, unless I can find a good quality horsehair before I go.
Preshave: Only hot water with a drip coal-tar shampoo whisked in.
Soap: Droyt's Glycerin Shaving Soap, originally made in Minsk pre-Russian Revolution now made in Lancashire England since 1938.
Cream: Erasmic (love their shaving soap too), just like your great-grandad used.
Aftershave: My usual mix of witch hazel + surgical spirit (which has castor oil in it) + glycerin + cheapest vodka + bay rum.
Infinitely variable proportions (in other words completely clueless).
Cologne: Lanvin 'Arpege Cologne For Men'.
Incidental: Borsalino fedora (a silver-grey peluche fur-felt, how on Earth I ever afforded it I don't know).Very useful for when sitting by the
cottage door, Pall Mall King Size Plain in right hand, Samuel Smith's Stout or two fingers of Maker's Mark in left hand, lurking there waiting for
a middle-aged female in extremely good condition to walk by with a friendly smile, while I convincingly pretend to be contemplating what to
write next.
Still on Page One.
Sorry Obie, there's something wrong with the carriage-return
on this
typewriter.
Are you sure this is how Harold Robbins
started
out?
Regards,
M
