I'm right handed but as recommended I've trained myself to shave left handed part of the time with a straight and it's now, nearly, 2nd nature.
However, I have never really tried using a DE or SE razor left handed, has anyone here transferred the both handed concept to DE's or SE's?
I use both hands.
I started with a DE, shaved with both hands, and do the same with straights.

Yes, I switch hands selectively with the double edge safety razor, too, and it works just fine for me.

I have tried using both hands with a DE but it seems harder than it is with a straight, so I just use my right hand with a DE

I switch hands whenever I shave myself no matter the tool. What's odd is that I have a crippling dominance while shaving the wife. Its almost like my left hand is worthless and honestly a little scary. This is for any tool.
I shave with both hands also. It's just much more comfortable.

Yes, I do. I use most tools, including my Colt 1911s, with either hand.

Incidentally I'm left eyed so when I used to shoot pistols and rifles I shot left handed. Likewise I had a "left handed" bow when I did archery although I always found that ironic as you hold it with the right hand!
My bow I shoot left handed, usually my rifles too. With shotguns I go either way, but I usually hit more doing it lefty.
I dont own any guns but:)......I still use my dominant hand for my DEs, and both for my straights. Works well for me.
I shoot lefty (and am right eye dominant :banghead:), shave with a straight with both hands, but for some reason shave with a DE only using my left hand. Never really thought about it until this thread...

I used a DE before a straight so using 2 hands was pretty automatic. The DE is so different than a straight it's hard to compare using 2 hands with both instruments. Getting used to the 2 hands maneuver with a straight was very different than with a DE.
I can shave with my DE using my dominant hand only, just as I did when I started shaving years ago with disposables, or I can shave "symmetrically" much as I do with a straight razor. I somewhat prefer the latter, as I follow the essentially the same three-pass shaving pattern I use with a straight.
I normally just shave with one hand when using a DE but now I want to re-learn with the both now that I use a straight.
I shave utilizing both hands when using a straight razor, yet shave with my right hand only with safety razors. It just feels right to me.

No, I don't use both with DE. Only with the str8. But, now that you've mentioned it, I will more than likely give it a try.
I've made a few half-hearted attempts to use both hands when shaving with a safety razor - they've been unsuccessful. It is easier to see the left side of my face when using my left hand to shave there, but it feels awkward.
Strangely, I have no issues shaving with my left hand when using a straight. It's probably just a matter of working at it.
I do. I find that using both hands really increases my field of vision when shaving and that helps me a lot.

Now that you mentioned it I only use my right hand when shaving the the DE or auto strops. I think I may try it straight razor style and use both hands tonight.
Wow. This is fascinating. (I'm a Righty.) I have confronted this lately in my DE shaving. When I first started DE, it was just like a non-pivoting disposable (so little adaptation needed). Then I tried to get really good shaves. Used the left hand more. Then in straight razor shaving I immediately realized I needed to get good with both hands, because the direction of hairs requires a lot more left-handed action on XTGs to get a good shave. Now I am more comfortable, faster, and achieve closer XTG and ATG shaving with my left hand. When I went back to the DE, too much time off and suffered with the safety razor... I regressed to using my right hand almost exclusively. Now I've regained ambidexterity but it is with reluctance.. why are open razors easier for us to use ambidextrously?

I use both hands for both.
For head shaving, it would be almost impossible to use just one hand. Because it seems so natural to shave my head that way, I do my face with both hands as well, no matter what kind of razor I'm using.
I know I'm a little late joining in this thread but I haven't used the DE for a while and wasn't sure If I used both hands or not. I did a head shave today and yep, I use both hands too.

I have never had a problem with a DE in my left hand or my right. It's really kind of natural either way. I find it a bit more difficult to use my left hand with a straight, but I've been working with it and now I'm about 98% of the way there. It's almost natural. Practice makes things easier.
