antique store find
Good morning forum!
I found this little guy at an antique store yesterday, and I believe it is a 1916 Gillette safety razor, am I right? I can't wait to load a double edge in it and split hairs!
It has the serial number C915268 stamped on it, and PAT.NOV.15.C4 on the bottom of the handle.
It came in a cool box, along with much of its previous owners DNA...

Nice. I'm not usually an open comb guy, but I do like the razors with the knob at the bottom.
I can't validate your date information, sorry.
Are there any areas of finish loss?
-
It seems to have been used regularly, but I can't really see any areas where the finish has eroded.

Nice. An open comb is next on my DE wishlist.

Hello, BritaBear:
Your find is probably the Gillette "New Standard" safety razor. It's an oldie. Enjoy it.
Regards,
Obie

Obie,
I believe your right!!! It seems I got it for a good price too. Can't wait to get some blades for that sucker... :)

That's a great razor, you will really enjoy shaving with it.

This might help date the item if you can find the serial number

That's a great fine. Those old open comb Gillette safety razors go for as much as $150 on eBay when they're in good condition. I'd really like to try and open comb sometime.

If you've never used a DE before be sure to pick up a blade sampler from one of our trusted vendors. It will be the best way to find out which blades work best for your new (old) Gillette.
