Mint 1912 Ever Ready Pics

I am just starting my venture with a straight razor (just bought my first razor on the SRP classifieds and ordered a strop from Tony Miller). I wanted to have a back up that wasn't a cartridge. After some research, I settled on a 1912 Ever Ready (not this one in the pic) and a 1912 GEM Jr I got on the cheap that I've been shaving with and loving the results!

I saw this little beauty last week and decided to go for it. It came with the original box and the original two blades. I don't know if I paid too much for it honestly, as I am still new to all this, but it wasn't a lot of money just the same.

Is it common to find these in this clean a condition? One of the blades was unwrapped and in the razor when I got it. Still, this looks like it has been used very little. I've only been researching these for a few weeks and hadn't seen anything come up in this clean a condition.

It's just looks so beautiful to me I wanted to share some pics before I started shaving with it.

Sometimes you can find them clean like that, but a lot of the time they need a little cleaning. I normally spray them down and let them soak in "Scrubbing Bubbles" then scrub with a toothbrush and rinse. If I really want to clean it up, I'll then follow it with some Flitz metal polish.

Yes, I've been shaving with the Personna's from Walgreens so far. I just got some GEM Blue Steel's from Gary at Shoebox as well and he threw in some Look SE's when he sent the order. I don't know this brand but will try them.

I haven't tried the "white box" GEMs yet but razor blades and more sells them loose in 10 counts, so I will order some to try. I'm curious to see if they shave/feel any different than the Walgreen GEMs. Phatman and medicevans recommend them highly so I'm looking forward to trying them.

I've been getting the best shaves I've ever had in my life with these razors. My face is smoother and just looks better overall from the close shaves and the extra care it's getting from the prep, creams, balms, etc. My wife loves my face and loves not having to tell me to shave ('cause I hated it so much I'd only do it when absolutely necessary or pushed to do so).

Thanks for the tip on the scrubbing bubbles. I've been using Brasso and it has worked out well so far. But soaking and brushing with the scrubbing bubbles sounds like it will get even better results. I will try this.

This "hobby" is becoming addictive quickly. In addition to the 1912's, I also picked up a 1914 "little lather catcher" (clean and cheap) and an old Gillette adjustable DE that cleaned up very well.

I know one thing, if a 100 year old razor can work this much better than any modern cartridge or disposable razor I've tried, I'll never use an over-priced cartridge again!

The straight razor and strop should be here by mid next week or so. I'm looking forward to it. Funny, I find myself looking forward to all my shaves now! It's still a little strange still, but it's a whole lot of fun!

Like a lot of us...we started out trying to save money on the overpriced cartridges...now we're spending more with all the stuff we get for the hobby. But it's definitely a whole lot more enjoyable.

Hi been using SE's for sometime now. Enjoy using most of them. One hint, you'll find that Gem, Ever-Ready, and Star. Are all the same razor. A 1912 gem is the same as the 1912 star etc. So if you're going to expand your collection go for the different styles not the brands.
