    Default Safety Razor?

I hope it's alright to ask about safety razors here.

I'm 23, in the military, and looking to start using a safety razor to save money long term. Hah, I'd use a straight, but I'm not sure it'd be practical for me right now.

My questions are: What safety razor would you recommend for legs, bikini area, and armpits? Would there even be that much of a difference between this or that safety?

I would like to also use the whole soap, brush, mug ensemble, but am I going to have an issue with this while traveling? I'm in the Navy.
Also, I read that it's better to spend a bit more on soaps n' such, which I'm fine with, but what's a standard price for a low end soap? A medium soap? A high end soap? I'd hate to jump on the first thing with a pretty label, only to find it's rather cheap stuff.

    Thanks!

Hello, HausMaus: For the double edge razor, I cannot say enough good things about the Edwin Jagger 89L. This is not only a lovely razor with impeccable workmanship, but it is also a sweet shave. For soap, I would recommend Provence Sante Verlaine (named after the French poet Paul Verlaine) or the green tea version.

Other good soaps are L'Occitane, Institute Karite, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Truefitt & Hill, e-Shave, Mama Bear, among others. Martin de Candre, from France, has no match, in my opinion, and worth the high price.

    Stay well.

    HausMaus,

    +1 on on Obies' suggestions

The razors and heads from Muhle (as used on the EJ 89L) have excellent fit and finish, and are lovely shavers as well.

If you would like to go down the vintage route, you can't go wrong with one of the Gillette SuperSpeed family

Definitely get yourself a blade sampler pack, as the choice of a DE blade is highly personal.

Some examples here from West Coast Shaving :Razor Blade Sample Packs | West Coast Shaving

    Good luck !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

I started my DE experience with a Merkur 34C. It's very newb friendly, in my eyes, but it seems to be getting a bit more expensive these days. I believe the Edwin Jagger would be a good trade-off, though I haven't used it myself.

I now use a Gillette Slim, which was cheaper than the Merkur. I really enjoy it.

+1 on a sampler pack, though I like the ones offered on Bullgoose
