I was under the longstanding impression that skin stretching doesn't matter so much with a DE. Yesterday I just didn't have time for a straight so I used my Merkur with Derby blade. While shaving I stretched the skin just like I do with a straight razor and didn't use any pressure. I was surprised how quick, comfortable, and easy the shave was. The skin stretching just let the razor qlide over my skin. Without stretching I always had to use a bit of pressure I think.

You are correct about skin stretching with the DE. As you know, the straight and the double edge share many characteristics in method. Stretching is one. I stretch about as much with the DE that I do with the straight. The whole idea is to create a clear and smooth path for the blade to cut, as well as to goose the stubble to get off its tush and stand up.
Very true, I made the same discovery somewhere along the line. Stretching the skin makes a world of difference no matter what shaving implement is used.
Yes, I believe stretching the skin is beneficial with any razor one might use. Without doing so, the blade ''skips'', and causes nicks & cuts. You also get a closer shave by stretching the skin, whether it be with a straight razor, a DE, or a dreaded Mach 3!
I believe that mantic59 has a video where he states (quite clearly, if I recall) that you shouldn't overstretch the skin when using a DE. He backs it up with a rationale. YMMV and all, but seeing as how I do have sensitive skin I took that advice half-to-heart and only stretch half as much when using a DE. Seems like a reasonable compromise to me. :w

The only thing I'll tell you guys is when I use a DE no matter which one I never ever stretch and have never had to. It doesn't matter the stroke with, cross or against. Maybe you guys got fat faces with big jowls or something:rofl2:-har har.
My pre shave routine consists of stretching as it prevents muscle cramps and promotes overall wellness.
