    Default Vintage Gillette

Im a straight razor user but decided i wanted to try safety razors too.
I found this blade in some antic shop near my place.

I found out it might be a gillette tuckaway, but the handle pattern is not the same as the ones i googled.
There is no diamond pattern. Is there any conclusion that can be draw form this? year? I hoped i didn't overpay for it. $25.

If you like it you did not overpay! Looks like a nice little score to me.

LoL those $5 dollar deals are getting fewer and fewer....

Most of my safety razors have been purchased from $5-28 with the two more expensives being a 58 fatboy and a 65 slim

I have a tech that I picked up for 9 dollars and all my gem's have been had around 6. Mostly I boil my safety razors for a couple minutes then used MAAS on them so as not to remove any plating.

    good luck and enjoy!

It's looks like a Gillette, I have one like it that was my fathers. He used it in the Marine Corp during WWII. Same case etc, so its a least late 30's early 40's. First razor I learned to shave with. Nicked myself with that razor more than once when I was a kid. LOL It was a darn good shaver though, so enjoy it.

Thanks for posting, seeing that old razor brings back memories.

I'm no expert but it looks like a NEW Bostonian in a tuckaway case. But google mr razor and look through their pictures yourself.

I've heard boiling gold razors can remove the plating so I use some dish soap and soak. I will use scrubbing bubbles not as a soak but use an old toothbrush and it usually does the trick for me. Oddly enough I am cleaning up a 1922 gold tuckaway right now...

i just realized that tuckaway is the pattern on the blade handle.

Well it could be a NEW norkfolk gold on a turcaway case + blade case.

This is my tuckaway set. Your handle looks like the common bar handle for the NEW models and the blade case appears to be Bostonian or Norfolk. The overall case looks exactly like my case though.

Even though I don't think the parts are a tuckaway it looks like a nice razor and a great find.

@cavere: thanks for all the info, im learning the terminology.

I now believe both cases to be from a 1935 delux nortfolk(since there is no name in the inside like the pic and the blade box matches mine. )

bit sad its not a matching set but il still use it and enjoy it ^^

Very nice find, sir! i do not think you over-paid. It is getting very difficult to find old razors for less than $15-25.
    Enjoy.
